Josh Jaggers resigns from Larue County

Featured Replies

Probably a nice guy, but sooner or later you gotta win some, 8-26 as someone said before is enough to get you out anywhere.

He will be ok.

Art Briles went 2 years at a HS job in Texas where he won 4 games and was forced out, matter of fact..in his early 30's like Jaggers. Things turned out ok for him.

Mack Brown had something like three, 1-10 seasons in his first five years as a college HC at two different schools.

Didn't Tony Franklin have an O'fer season his last year as a HS HFC at Mercer County? O'fer or 1 win...one of the two.

His high school coach, Sam Harp who is now at a school in Tennessee had a two win season and an O'fer the last two years (ironically the same record as Josh).

While he isn't any of those guys (heck, who is), it sounds like he is in great company.

He'll be fine.

if he won 6 games his first year he probable can coach. I to don't know much about Larue but I do know that in public schools you are going to go through some down years. Its high school football! PUBLIC high school football and you have some awful Senior classes despite what mommy and daddy think of their wonderful baby boy who was the best little league football player in the county and sorry mommy and daddy you don't play in your county in high school you have to play other schools. Most times 3 years is not enough time to eval a coach unless he is doing unethical things or is so much of a idiot or he has taken over a program that had very good young talent. But from what I have heard he took over a program that wasn't very good and he started several young players. Its hard to beat a super or prin who has an agenda!!!!

For his sake I hope that's what others look at if he goes after any jobs this year or next.

Looking back on that year, and what they accomplished will hopefully pull it's own weight. After that 3A season played out, it'd be hard pressed not to say that he/they had a Top 10 team in 3A during 2012 (and, I can almost bet the farm that they weren't expected to do so). Whether it be beating Corbin by 20 in the playoffs or taking Central and Bell County both to the wire that year @ Central and Bell County. At Central, I know they lost by a TD and at Bell County in the 2nd round, they were up almost 3 quarters into the game before Bell did what they seem to do to everybody at Log Mountain not named Louisville Central.

I was looking back through the years, and since 2003, LaRue County has had 4 playoff wins. Two in 2006 before they were beat in the AA Region Finals, One in 09 (Jaggers was the DC) and one in 2012 (his first year as the HC).

4 playoff wins since 2003 speaks to much a larger problem than Josh Jaggers as head coach.

Agreed, In the long run, Josh is probably better off. The worst part of this whole thing is what it does with his teaching job, puts him in that odd situation.

Probably just says that Larue County has ups-and-downs of talent like most rural schools in the 2A/3A range. Larue had a great run under Rodney Arms during the early-2000s and then dipped. Jaggers had a nice year as head coach and some success while he was an assistant. But Larue is a bedroom community without a huge employer to provide jobs and without a ton of football history, like a large percentage of Kentucky's counties. Because of that, those schools have to ride the waves of high talent and then hold on when the talent dips. Could they do some things differently to make improvements? Probably. But jobs like Larue (and myriad others) are difficult enough without poor decisions being made by the higher-ups.

Let me preface this by saying I love coach Jaggers and what he means to the program at LaRue...but this issue goes A LOT deeper than most understand. Josh interviewed for a few openings last season WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE and upset many people for doing that including a few of his assistants. I'm not saying what Josh did was right, I'm not saying what the administration (read: Superintendent) did was right...what I'm saying is that there is a lot more to this situation than many people are either willing to admit, or know. Anytime a coach is forced out of a program it is bound to give many people a bad taste in their mouths. As an alumnus of LC, I wish both coach Jaggers, who gave me many life lesson when I was in High School there and he coached AND the entire program the very best...I have no doubt both will bounce back and do great things.

I will say this.....I told him to go after the Henderson County job hard. Great opportunity there, good school, large talent base....I wonder if he wishes he had gone to Henderson County now.

Exactly.

You cant blame a guy for looking at other jobs!! If you are a business man and a big company comes and says they want you and you will make more money. What are you going to do? A lot of people expect a football coach to not be like a business man BUT COACHES HAVE FAMILIES TO!!Listen guys its not like it was 25 years ago when a high school head coach would stay somewhere 30 years. And this is simple because the administration. When I was in high school 35 years ago our principal had been there for 22 years 22 YEARS!!!! You will never see that again those days are over. So coaches cant afford to sit on their hands and think they will always have a job there because administration changes so much and when it does you never know if they are wanting to get their guy in there!! Administrators have created this stuff because they no nothing about running a team. And since I am on my soap box let me say also that Admin use to be old coaches that understood how difficult it is to win and what it takes, heck today admin are English or Math teachers that never ran a team in their life and have no idea what or how it is to run something. Now they are not picked to be principal because they can lead or run a business they are chosen because they now what the standards are for test scores. Sorry I just got on a role. Good luck to Coach Jaggers he will come out better off for it.

Every school system has its own politics. Admin deal with perception rather than reality. I have seen the exact same thing happen at danville. You dont know what you had until its gone. I expect it will work out well for coach Jaggers, just as it worked out well for my bddy at danville.

Did he get offered the job?

Did he get offered the job?

He withdrew from consideration before his second interview so we'll never know if they were going to offer him the job or not. He didn't truly want to leave Larue County and he didn't want to put himself in a position to where it would be a no-brainer to leave Larue County. Had he gotten to the point to where Henderson County offered him the job it would have likely been a no-brainer to pack his bags and head to Henderson County.

Oh and another thing I forgot to say your damned if you do and damned if you don't tell you are looking at another job. I have a friend in Ga that was up front with his administration about going to interview for another job that was better he ended up not taking it because not good timing for his family. He had a down year the next year and they fired him. So I wouldn't tell them either!!!

I think you are all over it. I will say this, I think Josh came in after they had Chuck Smith had passed it up.

Threw his name out there. They bit. Interviewed. Did something to get a 2nd one on a Friday. Tony Lewis was hired on Sunday.

Sounds like it was his for the taking.

He probably interviewed at Henderson because he knew how bad LaRue was gonna be. And when you're a young coach trying to get your name out there you gotta try and go after big jobs such as Henderson. I hope his loyalty to LaRue dont hurt him landing another job in the future because of his last two years. This guy can flat out coach. Any schools looking for you a young good coach needs to hire him if he was to apply.
