Holmes 105 Taft (OH) 17

I did not know who the Holmes coach was......I was hoping it was some inexperienced person that didn't know any better. But this guy should be REALLY proud of himself. I think stuff like this should get you fired (not renewed) just as quickly as not winning games!!! I am not an everybody gets a trophy kind of guy.....very old school as a matter of fact.......but with old school comes the responsibility of sportsmanship???

Holmes scored a school-record 85 points in the first half and cruised to a 105-17 dismantling of Taft Thursday night.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 3 in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll, forced 52 Taft turnovers, including 10 by Hannah Tubbs.

Tubbs was also one of five players to finish with double-digits in scoring for Holmes, finishing with 18 points. Jynea Harris scored a game-high 24 points while Amori Gully scored 16, Jaynice Stovall had 11 and Tyrah McClendon-Englemon finished with 10.

i don't care to hear any stats with a score/game like this. No reason for scores like this in high school...

What goes around will eventually come around.....in one form or another.

Just for :poop:'s & giggles, what was the halftime score?

52 turnovers? Got to be a record in one of the states.

Holmes had 85 (school record) in the first half. I can't imagine Taft had double digits.

As far as I'm concerned, you play as hard as you can for the first half and then let the JV play the 2nd. They scored only 20 in the second half, so it sounds like they did just that. People say the same thing for football. Player your starters for the whole first half (and I argue the 1st possession of the second offensively and defensively). Why is girl's basketball different?

I was not there, but I heard Taft had 8 points, this game did nothing for either team, I have sit thru a 80 to nothing football game and wondered why, I do the same here.

I agree with what has been posted so far, and I pose this question: (Clyde) What constitutes an act that makes a travesty of the game ? This is a very subjective rule and I don't know that I have ever seen or heard it applied, however, the rules are pretty clear about failure to comply with penalties..."or other acts which make a travesty of the game". In the case of this, an official can declare a forfeit. The enforcement of this rule is one that you must be 10000% sure of before you go down this road (you and your crew).

Does a score of 85 - 8 (or whatever it was) at halftime make a "travesty of the game " ?

I'm not condoning or celebrating this by any means! But I do want to mention this... I can remember around 2000 or 2001 maybe even 2002 a Highlands football team traveled to Holmes handed Holmes an 81-0 thumping!!! Now who coached that team! And did that have a poor reflection on him, his school and athletic department at the time?? Just wondering???

I understand what you're saying, but have to completely disagree in basketball. My guess they were most likely up 80 in the first half. Do you know how hard it is for girls to even score 80 in a game...much less a half! What would being up 80 equal in a football game? Would it be okay to be up 100-0 at half of a football game. It's not just about leaving your starters in...it's about what they do with the starters. Also, in a football game, you have limited possessions. So You want the kids to get some reps. You don't get the ball back every 20 seconds. In basketball against bad teams, you get plenty of possessions very quick. You don't need reps against someone you are scoring 40 a quarter on. In this case, playing a quarter would be about the equivalent of a half of football. Just about anyone that has ever coached basketball would not let this happen unless they wanted it to. Should HHS and NCC beat Dayton and Bellevue by 100...because they probably could if they wanted to. HHS played their starters together against Dayton for about a total of 5 minutes. At about the 4 minute mark of the first qtr, the second 5 went in the game. The starters would return periodically mixed in with JV players, but never played together again except the first 2 minutes of the second half. The rest of the time were for everybody else. Our 8th grader was the leading scorer in that game. When the starters came out in the middle of the first qtr, it was 22-2. They could have easily done the same thing to Dayton if they wanted.

My point is...you don't do this in basketball. Even if you leave your starters in the entire first half, there is plenty you can do not to score 85 points in a half. Sit back in the paint, play defense, rebound, walk it up and run thru multiple options in your offense. This had to be trap, steal, layup...trap, steal, layup.

Just no place for it in my opinion.

And for the record...nothing against the Lady Dogs. Have much respect for their kids!

Is an 81 point win in football the same as a 90 point win in BBall? Maybe it is to some, but I think it's a lot different.
