How often do you see 70-80 point wins in football. How often do you see 90 point wins in basketball.

 

80 points in football is 11-12 scores. A 90 point win in basketball is 45 scores. Alot more opportunities to control the score.

 

And I have no details of that football game 14 years ago. So I have no insight what went on there or how it was handled. If it was an attempt to run up the score without any control and playing the starters longer than necessary and pressing all the buttons, then that is just as bad. But I can't say whether or not it was because I don't remember that game from 14 years ago. But like I said, if it was similar to this, I would be just as critical.

'm not saying I like it but if Taft's coach who congratulated Perkins for having a nice team isn't complaining then why is everyone else! I played sports I have had my tail kicked and kicked some tail along the way! It happens!! I would find it more insulting to not give it your best effort all the time for everyone involved! And if the shoe were on the other foot so be it!! I just read the article on that Highlands vs. Holmes football game and not one time did then coach Vander Meet issue a complaint!! And yes at halftime of that games Highlands led big and put up some gaudy stats!! I pasted a link to it

Fact of the matter is it was unfortunate the game wasn't any better than it was!! But those girls practice all week for games and deserve to be rewarded for their hard work! They approached and played the first half as they would any game. It was not a blatant attempt to upstage another team. The schedule does not get easier for holmes and he owes them his best effort to get them ready as well as theirs. He does not coach to please the masses!!

I too have been on the tough end of plenty of butt kickings, but this is not just a butt kicking. I'm sure the butt kicking part was over after the first quarter. I'm sure they had to have about 40 or so by the end of the first quarter. How can you then proceed to add another 40 in the second quarter??

 

I know you and I know that you can't believe this was a great thing. And I know you can't say too much about it. But this kinda stuff just really is a pet peave of mine, especially in HS sports.

I don't know anything about the game and I don't mean any disrespect to the poster, but I do take issue with the above statement in a post. Have you been to Holmes lately? They surely have the same type of issues noted. And if you're "close" to the school, you should know this.

As far as I'm concerned, you play as hard as you can for the first half and then let the JV play the 2nd. They scored only 20 in the second half, so it sounds like they did just that. People say the same thing for football. Player your starters for the whole first half (and I argue the 1st possession of the second offensively and defensively). Why is girl's basketball different?

And your point? I'm not close to Holmes (the school) and I didn't say they didn't have similar issues. But what does that have to do with Taft getting demoralized? They may both have simlar issues, but one team didn't get embarrassed and added issues that could have been controlled.

Well I'm guessing Taft won't be answering any of Holmes phone calls anytime soon. As they shouldn't! Wow......:no:

From a W/L standpoint this was a meaningless game. Scores also show that Holmes was going to roll in this one.

 

Why not reward the players who show up every day without seeing much game action with the chance to hear their name announced in front of their families when the starting lineup is announced? What a thrill it would be for those players.

 

Everyone knew the outcome of the game was already determined before the first tip. Why even play the starters? What did they do to make them better? Steal the ball and shoot layups? Come on. Golden opportunity missed by the coach.

 

There's one one or two of these a year. You have to plan for them and reward your dedicated players.

How many did the top 7 have. And are you saying JV was in before half? Not 6, 7, 8. Again. It's not necessarily how long the started played or scored. It's what they did to get the points. Are you telling me that didn't shoot layup after layup? At some point they slowed it down and ran thru their offense? In the first half. Again. It would be hard for any girls team to score 85 without a defense on the court!

 

I'm done. Said what I feel and I'm sure several others outside of the dog pound feel the same way. It's over and they can't take it back. And I know the coach isn't trying to please the masses, but the masses take note and the rep is becoming that Holmes will run up the score when they can. Like many have said, what comes around goes around. Maybe not this year, but it will happen. And I wouldn't be surprised when the first coach that has the chance will do it to him. And for those that don't know me, yes, I would tell him that if he were standing right next to me.

I just wanted to point out that Holmes has similar types players with life issues as well. Like I stated, I don't know anything about the game and it sounds like most posters weren't there either.

 

However, what are the kids supposed to do, quit passing, shooting, playing any defense, work on anything? How do we know if Holmes girls team didn't have plenty of underclasswomen in the game? Again, seems like no one knows.

Why in the world are we posting and bragging about this game??? This is ridiculous. I have a good friend that went to Taft. I know what Taft is about. It is filled with inner-city underprivileged kids with many other life hurdles to get passed and now they just demoralized on top of that. I just can't swallow it.

It would be tough to score 85 points in a half in a layup line! As I did hear they didn't actually "press" the entire game, I heard they still played an aggressive half court trap. Maybe so they could officially say "well we didn't press". But honestly, I could care less if they pressed or not. As others have stated, you know very early in a contest like this that the team is inferior. At that point, you work on as much as you can with the time you have, but with the respect of your opponent first and foremost...in these situations. Scoring 85 in a half...no matter what the reason is...shows complete disrespect for an opponent. These are teenage kids that don't need to be demoralized. And then to come on here and talk about the accomplishment...Really???? Most teams won't even post blow out scores on here. There is a reason that 85 points in a half is a record!!!
