I bet the kids on both teams care WAY LESS about the score of that game than the adults seem to. I'm not for running the score up but I always get a kick at how worked up adults get when there is a lopsided score. When I was 12 or so, I played on a BB team that got beat 80 something to 20 something. The next day we are all fine.

I'm not a parent on either team. Just my pet peave. And again, your score was 80-20. They scored 85 in a half!!! Do you realize what it takes to score 85 in a half??? In your example, did the other team continue to play full pressure with the starters up that much? Again. Not the margin or the blowout. It's how they got there. Apparently it does have an effect. We are comparing it to a football game that happened 14 years ago. Again, if hhs ran the score up then, I would be saying the exact same thing. No place for it in HS soorts. Respect your opponent. This wasn't just a typical blowout. No matter how bad your opponent is, you have to push the issue the entire half to score 85 points. Zero let up and attack mode the entire time or you couldn't physiacally get that many point in that amout of time. So no one has an issue with them being up 70 half way thru the 2nd quarter (70 points) and still pressuring, trapping, fast braking and shooting 3's.

Heck, my little 4th grade team just lost to a 5th grade team 38-0. They could have scored 150 against us if they wanted. But not once did I feel like they were trying to run it up. They pulled the defense back (not lessen the effort) didn't fastbreak after the 1st qtr, ran offense and got the ball to the kids that don't score a lot. They still played with a ton of effort. Just did different things.

And just for the record. I'm not really upset, just think it's ridiculous and the majority feel the exact same way. I just like discussion on the discussion forum.

RCC, you know we agree with each other almost all the time. I don't disagree with anything you are saying regarding the fact that running the score up is not right. Dale used to do it (sorry fellow HHS fans but you know he did - then he stopped later on and Coach Weinrich definitely did not this year when he could have). Looks like the Holmes coach may have in this game - was not there but the score looks bad. All I am saying is that the adults care way more about this kind of stuff than the kids do. In the game I referenced, I think they did keep fast breaking but don't remember the details - it was a LONG time ago:)...

Also, if I'm reffing your 4th grade game, I'm calling some phantom fouls to get your team to the line to avoid the shutout:)

They did in the fourth qtr and we couldn't throw it in the ocean!! We are a rec team. But we still learned a lot! And they are fine.

We get this type of thread a couple times a year in the girls bball forum. Always an interesting read.:lol2:

I'm going to see if I can get you a copy of the game tape RC. I'm no longer sure your upset about this as much as you are that it's even possible!

So you've been down 85 at half the the team still continues to pressure you and trap? I'm not talking about just getting blown out. We've all been blown out. Again, not talking about a normal blowout and mismatch here. 85 points in a half is 5.3 points per minute! You can't do that unless you are trying to. So once they were up 40 after the first qtr, it was okay to continue doing the same thing for anothe entire quarter...so much that they scored another 40??? Again, coached and been an athlete all my life. I know what blowouts are. This was uncalled for. Period!

Oh, we're splitting hairs over the score? My son's team lost 88-16 in a 4 quarter game but I guess since the other team didn't score 85 points in the first half it doesn't count. Got it.

Unless you have some sort of vested interest in either one of the programs involved, I'm not sure why anyone would really care?

Some people just like to be outraged.

Nope. Again has nothing to do with the score. In your game, I assume the other team was up 60 or so at some point right? Were their starters still trapping, fastbreaking and shooting 3's at that point??

Some people just like to be outraged.

Not outraged. Just discussing. This board is about opinions and I have a strong one on this stuff. And now am just responding to others on here.

Yes. We can all offer our opinions. My opinion is that some people enjoy the outrage.

And that's your opinion. But not the case here. You may be correct for some. Not outraged at all. Just say what others are thinking. You'd think you'd like the added discussion.
