Hey everyone else out there. I think people think that this is a Highlands thread because of who started it but it clearly states "Outlook for next year" which means everyone. I'm sure this Highlands#1 fella or feller or even fellie would love to have some other input so they can get out of this thread. Anyone? Bueller? Hello?

 

Actually I think this fellow very much intended this to be a Highlands thread and had a kid in mind when he started his post. I'm guessing that he's figured out by now at he's not getting the answer he wanted- ie: that this kid will be playing Varsity as a Frosh.

To this perspective parent let your frosh enjoy his time. You my friend enjoy yours! 4 years go way to fast. Do not put unreal expectations on your Son. The HHS program is built on bidding time and being ready when the opportunity presents itself. No Frosh will play at HHS based on anything I have seen in the area. Trust me you may have a child that will express an interest to succeed in another sport. Cheer for them all his time will come and then it will be gone. Enjoy the ride!

I'm a very proud parent and I know my son will be starting THIS coming year. He was always a starter in the FTJFL and I know he will excel and succeed at the varsity level but if he doesn't that will be ok also.

You could be doing more harm than good.

I was able to see the Highlands Frosh play twice this past year. A lot of their success was due to team cohesiveness, rather than an Alpha player IMO. They had some nice athletes that made plays, but I can think of none that are physically ready with regards to size, strength, and speed to "Start" in front of the coming Juniors or Seniors on the team. Getting reps in Varsity game is likely for some, but don't see any starters.

 

I spoke with a few Freshman from CC who were able to get a few reps on JV this past year. There comments were the game was much faster and the opposing players stronger and heavier hitters. Jump to Varsity and this only increases. These younger players may be the same height, weight as a Varsity player, but I doubt they have the strength or speed of these older boys.

 

Injury is a factor in younger players getting a chance, but with the numbers at Highlands, next man up most likely to be a Junior

Injury is just part of the game. Hope for the best but also know it could happen. I hope he get's playing time is all I can say. guess time will tell

If your son is going to be a sophomore at Highlands next year then I'm sure everyone is with me when I say we wish him the absolute best. We also hope you are not putting too much pressure on the young lad to succeed at such a young age. Remember at Highlands, there are many very talented players that spend the majority of their time in High school on the sidelines as they await their turn. You will find from most of the players that have gone through the system that the team philosophy is always the most memorable thing they take away, not how much playing time they got etc.

 

I will give you a story about a member on here that became a member on here around this same time last year. I will not state his name because I do not wish to break any rules etc. but many will know who I am talking about.

This proud father as soon as the season was over for his son's team last year started touting his son as the next great QB at his school. His team just lost the best QB the school has ever had as he graduated and moved on to a DI college where he red-shirted this year as a Freshman. This father started created threads about the next QB at so and so school, and any thread talking about best players etc. he would tout his son as one of the can't miss players in the area.

 

To make a long story short, as the season approached he would make sure that any talk of the possibility of another player becoming the starting QB wasn't going to happen. Anytime another name was mentioned as the possible starter he would chime in with remarks such as, they won't win a game under so and so, or that so and so is sucking up to the coach or it's one of the coaches buddies etc. Once the season started, his son who was a fine athlete, didn't get the starting QB position and instead was put in another starting position. Whenever the team lost, he would be the first on here saying it was because the starting QB was horrible and his son should be the QB etc. It got to the point after one of his weekly blowups on here that he was called out on the table as the team started winning and the QB was putting up really good numbers etc. The father made another post which was put down by several members and the next thing you know he is no longer posting on here and not only that, his son quit the team that same week.

 

So please, as I said, we all wish your boy the best but please don't try and promote him to something he may not be able to live up to. There are a ton of players who read this message board and they know what is going on. Let your boy enjoy his high school football career and if he is as successful as you think he will be then there will be plenty of folks on here talking his praises. It's stressful enough being a teenager these days, adding pressure from a parent doesn't make it any easier and can also end up being a negative if the boy doesn't fulfill what your expectations of him end up being. Let them enjoy their time on one of the best programs in the state. Let him be a kid.

Holy cow! This info is so exciting! So you are saying we have the next Austin Collinsworth, Derek Smith, Jared Lorenzen, or Gino G in the making? Wait, the last two didn't start as soph. What I'm saying is it's extremely difficult to start at the Varsity level at Highlands as a soph. Proud dad or not, hopefully you keep this in perspective.

 

There is actually one kid that comes to mind that may have a shot at playing substantially, but I'm not naming him because I don't want him or his daddy think it's a done deal, not that I have any pull, zero pull that is, lol, but if you are his dad, then let me say I'm a little disappointed that you have gone this route on BGP. If you are him, you should know better!

Ok so I am confused....Highlands#1 talks about incoming Frosh starting Varsity....is he confused in really meaning current Frosh who will be Soph next season like his son?

 

There are a couple of really talented Frosh who could challenge for starting positions next year at HHS but like Tdy I wont name them. They know who they are and I am sure they are going to work hard in the offseason to be in position to earn those spots.

 

As far as any frosh next year.....there are NONE at Highlands.

I didn't use any names or even mention team. I was simply giving a story about someone who ventured down this path as hopefully a heads up of what not to do. Was doing it as friendly advice of what not to do is all.

Not only will the Bluebirds move up to Class 5A with Covington Catholic, they could face a tougher road back to Bowling Green. They will be in the same district with CovCath, Dixie Heights and Grant County next season.Highlands needs some players to step forward from the junior varsity and freshmen squads. The Bluebird junior varsity finished 1-5 with the lone win coming against Covington Catholic. The freshmen finished 3-5 beating Simon Kenton, Boone County and Cooper. This my friend is something to worry about. Jv 1-5 and frosh 3-5? I know the Blue birds are a great team and all but they are also losing a lot of great players.

 

I'm sure they'll have 4 or 5 kids move into Highlands school district or transfer in from other areas.
