Nobody should give credit to the Williamsburg coach for going for The two point conversion that was a no-brainer he had no choice. The real game changer for Williamsburg with when he elected to go for it on fourth down as opposed to taking the three-point field-goal ....huge mistake

My thing is this. WB returned a ton of kids and MF lost a ton. Mayfield still came out on top. Yes, WB was ten times better than expected but honestly the better team wins championship football games. No luck in that. Each teams practice their craft every week. When you get to that stage you've put in enough time the those field goals should be second nature. It's not the other teams luck that he clearly missed filed goals in pressure moments. It's just not. our kicker held his own all season and executed down the stretch in a big game. You outsiders constantly take away from these kids instead of congratulating them. It's honestly a shame. Move on.

Congrats to Williamsburg on a great season, and a very well played game today! Congrats to The Big Red Machine on another State Championship! The Burg's d-line was as good as I've seen..........kept our OL from getting to the LB's the whole game. I can definitely see how they hadn't lost a game going into this one. Good luck to the Yellow jackets next season!

Maybe but I will say everyone within ear shot of me was scratching their heads On not kicking that field goal. I did not see it as a choice to make at all it was 100% clear to me. Kick a field goal and then possibly win with a touchdown not even needing the extra point or forced into having to score a touchdown and convert of the two point conversion just to be tied I don't see that as a hard decision to make .

Arguably one of the best high school football games I have ever seen. I can honestly say that both teams left it all on the turf. Both sides can say what if this what if that but, I think it is safe to say both sides got their money worth on this gridiron battle and a battle is exactly what it was.

Congrats to mayfield on a state championship

 

And congrats to williamsburg on a hard fought game.

First: congrats to my cards for winning a tough, tough game. played great, at times, and showed the true heart of a champion.

 

Also congrats to Williamsburg for a fantastic effort. They came to play. I was surprised how good they were. Two of the catches they made were as fine as catches as one will ever see in a high school game, and another half dozen of them were very well done. The qb was super-good, eluding pressure, running with the ball, and made great passes.

 

As for all the "outplayed us","who is the better team talk," .....eh. The mayfield haters are basically reduced to arguing what ifs. If we were outplayed so badly, why couldn't Williamsburg get the ball across the goal line on TWO occasions? Was it poor offensive play calling again like it was last week? Or could it just be that the Mayfield boys get pretty good and clutch when they need to be.

Maybe some of you posters can get the KHSAA to organize a tournament for all the teams that were better than Mayfield but couldnt beat Mayfield.

I have always had great respect for the Mayfield Nation but it's hard if you can't see a game where one team gained 372 yards to 187 and not see the reason some have made statements about the Jackets playing a better game. I thought that watching it with no rooting interest. The long time Big Red on this site let the team speak rather than go in a beat your chest defensive attitude.

 

I say again congrats to both teams and particularly Mayfield whose program keeps getting stronger and stronger.

That is a fine idea they can play the first round at Beachwood and the championship game at Williamsburg

yeah, Williamsburg played a great game. As i said, two of those catches were as good as i have ever seen. They played awesome. So did Mayfield.

 

You say how can we not see the reason some may say the yellowjackets played a better game. Yeah, i can see the reason. I don't have to agree. Can you see why it might get tiresome to hear this over and over, and can you see why we might disagree with the assessment of who played the better game? Scoring is part of the game still, not just an accumulation of yardage. We won, and have a pretty solid basis to think we played the better game.

Congrats to the Cardinals on another championship. It was a hard fought game. Williamsburg is a fine team who has nothing to hand their heads about. When push come to shove Mayfield did what matters the most. Win.

 

On a personal note I just have to brag on my son Elijah. He got his third ring today and he played a big part in this one. One of his best games. I know when those big lineman see him from across the line(he is 5' 7) they think they will have it easy. They just don't know the heart he has. Congrats E. I love you buddy. Very proud of ya.

The winner of this game was simple, it was Mayfields D- line

 

They won the game for Mayfield. I know Mayfield fans hate hearing the better tram lost, but in reality from someone with no dog in the fight, Mayfields D-line was the MVP but Williamsburg had better everything else today but they couldn't convert when it counted. Congrats Mayfield on another title, well deserved!

Williamsburg proved a lot of doubters wrong, they are the real deal. I'm sure they are heartbroken, thinking what if and what could have been, but Mayfield just made some huge plays that champions make. Williamsburg didn't lose the game, Mayfield just won it.
