Williamsburg proved a lot of doubters wrong, they are the real deal. I'm sure they are heartbroken, thinking what if and what could have been, but Mayfield just made some huge plays that champions make. Williamsburg didn't lose the game, Mayfield just won it.

I was going to wait until the second game to head over to the field. I wasn't sure this would be a good game. I had no preference on which team I wanted to win. As the game went on, I became a Wburg fan. It was a great game. Both teams had their moments. I have no doubt had Williamsburg had the ball 2nd in OT, that their coach would've gone for 2 and Williamsburg would've won the game. Congratulations to Mayfield. They made the plays they needed to win the game. I think either of these teams would have won the 2A title.

As I wake this morning with a smile knowing #11 is safely tucked away in the Cardinals Treasure vault for eternity, I can only think wow! How great it is to be a fan of such a great program. This was a year that began with uncertainty, one that many knew could possibly lose as many as 4-5 regular season games and a title was far from certain. Many said if your going to get us this was the year but God must be a Cardinal fan. Once again, with the game on the line that Mayfield Magic saw the Cards through. Or maybe it was intervention from above from the Cards slain classmate and football team mascot. This young team just amazed me with their fortitude. In a TV interview after the game, Mf coach Joe Morris said that this is a young team and not the most talented or experienced team the Cards have had the last 5-6 years but they just win. Success is bred here and certainly it showed today. I am proud to say I am a Mayfield Cardinal. Fairwell 1A, we have had a great run and made great frienships, rivals and memories. Many memories that will forever be etched in Cardinals lore.

Nobody should give credit to the Williamsburg coach for going for The two point conversion that was a no-brainer he had no choice. The real game changer for Williamsburg with when he elected to go for it on fourth down as opposed to taking the three-point field-goal ....huge mistake

 

If you were referring to my post, my point was not the call to go for it. That was a no brainer. My point was the play call. They had been running bootleg type stuff on that type situation and switched to the little dunk pass to the HB. Similar good call by Morris on the first play in OT. A new wrinkle for both.

The same Johnny that stood over a Wburg player after making a tackle shaking his head, I mean really after a game like that and this is what you want to discuss...

Both teams were in a dogfight, emotions are going to come out. Do not let these post of individual actions while on the heat of the moment undermine the great game that was played.

 

Players from both sides do not need these comments to take away from the performance.

I wonder how much of aneffect the cheap shot on the Williamsburg kicker in the Raceland game last week had on the 2 missed kicks?

 

Was Rams #2 playing for Mayfield? No, I don't think so. We did lose last week and yes I don't agree with the play where he took out the kicker. Was a poor use of judgement.

 

Did W'burg's kicker not make 2 Field Goals and extra points earlier in the game?

 

So not, the Raceland play didn't affect the kicker. Feel for the kid, but sometimes you just have to say that he wasn't able to get the job done when the game was on the line.

 

Not the first kicker to miss when it's all on the line and he won't be the last.

 

It's a team sport and you should win as a team and lose as a team.

 

It wasn't fair to him that this question was even introduced on this thread.
