I still believe that people will believe whatever they want to believe, but this is a huge feather in the cap for Winston on this issue. The fact that a third party judge was brought in (which BTW was no favor to Jameis and was a break from their established procedure) and that a judge totally removed from the equation decided there was not enough evidence when the standard is so much lower is pretty much vindication.

I have a hard time seeing a civil trial yielding a favorable result for the accuser although I am sure they will just pay to stop it at that point.

Not surprising - her story had more holes in it than 20 slices of Swiss cheese. He is not a very likeable guy so some will still believe he is guilty just because they want him to be. If you analyze the facts though, it is easy to see why he was not only not convicted, he was not even charged.

This is a big blow for her civil case too.

It seems most have moved on from the original thing about the accuser not knowing who Winston was. But if there are any lingering doubts on that one, ask yourself how likely it would be that a 19-year-old kid (or however old he was at the time of the incident) out picking up chicks at bars would choose not to instantly say, "I play football for FSU," as a means of helping his chances of "taking it to the house" that night.

Did anyone expect any other decision ? Makes me want to throw up in my mouth. Winston, Fisher (who I used to think was class) and FSU are all a joke.

No, I didn't expect anything different, because he didn't rape her...

You know something EVERYBODY who investigated this situation doesn't know?

The judge brought in has a very nice reputation and was well regarded by both sides. I think we should all respect the decision and move on as there is every indication the judge was impartial and did not favor either party. If there's more to it than could be determined in this type of hearing the girl can always take it to civil court.

I'm glad the judge came to a relatively quick decision.

Makes me think there truly was not a good case anywhere to prove that he did anything wrong.

I said a long time ago that in all likelihood only Jameis and his accuser will ever truly know whether it was or wasn't assault. The Tallahassee Police Department deserves their share of blame in that. If Jameis was provably guilty then they obviously did him a huge favor. But if the evidence would have broken the other way, then it was no favor at all. That's because the court of public opinion - many of whom have done little to absolutely nothing to justify said opinion - convicted him a long time ago. I'm sure there are people who still believe Kobe was guilty of rape. Same for Ben Roethlisberger. In fact, even without a botched Tallahassee PD investigation there are likely people who would still believe.

All I know at this point is this - the burden of proof (a preponderance of evidence) is much, much lower in these, and STILL they found no violation. And this wasn't the Tallahassee PD, or a local prosecutor. It was a third party, a judge chosen from a panel of three where both Jameis's attorney and the accuser's counsel struck one apiece. A former state supreme court judge who has no reason to protect anyone. That wasn't even supposed to be done but FSU took that step because they sure as heck didn't want anyone else to be able blame them for the decision. The judge and the process was lauded by the accuser's attorney prior to the judgment. Same result as a year prior. If that's not good enough for you, then clearly, nothing ever will be.

You can think Jameis is immature, you can think he's stupid, and you can think FSU and Jimbo should have cut him loose a while ago. I'm not sure in my heart I can disagree fully with any of those. But it has grown incredibly difficult for me to find any reason for someone to continue to believe he's guilty of rape other than they simply WANT to believe that because of his other (many) flaws.

Makes me think there truly was not a good case anywhere to prove that he did anything wrong.

The accuser's own actions compounded by the lack of a decent police investigation assured that. If he's innocent he was done a huge disservice, if he's guilty she was done a huge disservice. Sucks all the way around and I'm sure we still haven't heard the last of it.
