Hey, I apologize to all the RH supporters. My intention was not to attack, condemn or otherwise. I just thought this was a forum to state opinions, but apparently I was wrong and won't let it happen again. I don't have a personal problem with the Faulknes or RH. I have a problem when kids transfer only for athletics, whatever the school or sport. I don't think RH is the dark force in area athletics. I do think it was wrong when Sterling transferred to West Carter the year they won the championship. I'm not just out to get RH. I don't think transfers "are evidence of problems at the school." I didn't say there were problems at the school. I would never want to take anything away from what RH has accomplished this year. I'm sure there's a bull's eye on my back for having an opinion that is contrary to the RH supporters who keep this board hot. It's not personal, it's just an opinion. And like I said before, it's just a game. You can blame parents and the all about me attitude or whatever. I just initially posted because I thought credit was being taken away from Rayburn & Easterling, whether or not you would ever acknowledge it. I guess I'll go swim in that mud hole now and think about how foolish I've been in taking on the dark force in area athletics.

Rickyp the only reason I brought up the boys on this thread in girls basketball was in answer to BR549 who for some unknown reason thought this was about boys basketball . When you bring up the West Carter state championship and you speak of the one that got away from us it really makes me wonder how good the kittens might of been if the 4 girls had stayed .I hope that everyone who is a fan of girls basketball will stay with their programs and follow them thru the good and the bad . Sometimes that means more than just 2 or 3 years i hope to see a lot of you fans out there in the next 5 to 6 years if not we all know why you not there.:

So is Rose Hill the dark force or not? I'm confused.

 

Really, I don't take anything personal nor do I intend for anything to be personal. The fact is that Rose Hill is always going to be looked at differently because it is a private school. To the uninformed, and I don't mean anyone in particular, it is believed that being a private school in an open enrollment area gives Rose Hill some advantage. I certainly don't mean to take anything away from Rayburn, she is just a kid who appears to be a quality young lady.

 

Verbatim, your opinions are absolutely welcome and respected. Debate is what makes this entertaining. :thumb:

I don't think RH is the dark force. Someone else mentioned it and i just thought it was too amusing not to poke fun at.

Verbatim, your opinions are always welcome. We at Rose Hill neither seek nor expect the support of the public schools or their supporters. After all, we are sometimes in competition for the same students- athletes and nonathletes. The very nature of private schools requires that that be the case. We just request that, on occasion, our detractors tell the whole story rather than using the "pick and choose" approach as is their usual modus operandi. Some of your earlier statements reflected those same traits.

 

Actually, it is much more pleasant being the target rather than being the doormat. No one worried about where our students came from when we were not a threat. As we experience some modest success, the heat starts to turn up. To me, that indicates that we must be doing something right. We have learned that we have few, if any, dependable friends among our neighbors. That has been, though disappointing, an important lesson to learn and you can be sure it has been learned well.

Ram Land, if you happen to be correct, it would be far more revealing of the character, intelligence, and maturity levels (or lack thereof) of the coaches of this area than about the results of the vote.

 

It would be reminiscent of the 2002 vote when Jeff Hall was chosen as Kentucky's statewide coach of the year but received no votes from his local "colleagues" for area coach of the year. Real classy bunch of coaches, don't you think? I would hope the coaches of the female teams could do better particularly when the choice is so obvious.

 

I noticed Coach Hall's banner was taken down in Rose Hill's gym the last time I attended a game. Was it relocated?

I'm sure that, although you fail to mention it, you noticed that all banners have been temporarily removed. They, with others, will be relocated. Since banners have been purchased by businesses and other sponsors and since a few more achievements need to be honored, "redecorating" is necessary. As for Coach Hall, all at Rose Hill are proud of his recognition as state coach of the year and certainly will include that display among the banners. We certainly appreciate Jeff Hall. It is still "strange" that his local colleagues failed to do so while he was heralded statewide.

I am not doubting the truth of your post, westsider. However, it is still reasonable to expect some documentary evidence that this is the traditional policy of the KABC. Otherwise, your statement is merely unsubstantiated heresay.

 

If, in fact, the KABC does not include all players and all coaches in a region, it should so state so that others know that the awards are somewhat less than all inclusive and, therefore, are not as significant as most are led to believe.

I'm not posting hearsay, scooterbob. That is the KABC policy ... ask any coach that is a member of the organization.

 

Bottom line ... each school's coaches have a chance to pay the dues and join the organization. If they don't, they risk denying their players some award opportunities and deny themselves the chance to vote for such honors.

After some casual conversation, I have discovered that the KABC is not an organization that is limited to coaches. Apparently, some schools are represented only by their head coaches, some schools are not represented at all, some schools have all assistant coaches join, and some schools might have more than 15 or 20 of their staff hold memberships.

 

As for the winners of this year's awards (Rayburn and Easterling) from the 16th region, I'll say congratulations. I have no idea if Rose Hill has anyone that holds a membership, but if they don't I'd like to see them join, so that Emily Queen would be eligible next season. Quality young lady, and she can play some basketball. :thumb:

Why can't folks just congratulate the youngsters who have won awards without adding negative comments (from overt to subtle) which so often are simply veiled jabs at others?:irked:

 

Sometimes it seems to me that this site becomes a forum for one's paranoia about their school. Perhaps grudges are carried over from previous discussions? Broad sweeping generalizations that suggest most everyone is involved in this or that, as well as stating you know why someone else chose to act in a certain manner are just not fair, in addition to frequently being dead wrong.:sssh:

 

Any recognition/awards announced will have some believing another person should have been chosen. That doesn't necessarily mean the organization "owes" you an explanation, let alone an explanation. You can cheer the person you prefer without denegrating another person/organization/school, or group of people:thumb:

I have read the post on the KABC and the disclaimer that one of the posters feel should be on the award. Let me start out by saying that there are a bunch of girls that could deserve the award (including Falkner, Queen, & Terry). The KABC POY & COY are for the schools that are memebrs of this organization. Take into account that if the best player in the stae doesn't play at a sanctioned KHSAA school then he/she would not wn the Mr./Miss Basketball award. Should that award come with a disclaimer that says "Mr./Miss Basketball of all schools sanctioned by the KHSAA; excluding Prep School, Department of Juvenile Justice, and Court Appointed Facilities. Should these players not be accounted for on this award? They are here in Kentucky. Let's face it, it is what organization you belong to.

Kayla could have very easily been selected as POY. Unfortunately she wasn't. Rayburn receiving the award is not a great shock because she has been an outstanding player for WC for quite some time. Hager has been an excellent coach for quite some time as well, but...there was definetly other coaches in the 16th Region that probably deserved this award more. Namely Troy Lee Thomas at Rowan Co. Region Championship game with a 7 point half time lead with a bunch kids who nobody gave a chance to all season...come on how many area coaches would have had the same success with this team?? Really need to think about what a coach means to their team when you think of COY.

I agree with Faulkner in the 16th. I still dont think she is the best player on her team though.
