If I'm not mistaken, there was a Burger King west of Fountain Square. It was either on Race or Elm between 6th and 7th.

 

That very well could be. I can't picture a Burger King downtown, but that's not to say there wasn't one. It's possible that I've completely forgotten.

 

Also, my more thorough knowledge of downtown did not begin until the early to mid 80's, so if there happened to be one down there before that, I wouldn't have known about it.

On a side note: I hate that Cincinnati got rid of the majority of the skywalk. I loved it! No need for one now since all the stores it connected to are gone. Downtown Cincinnati sucks.

I'm with you about the skywalk. It was once a pretty cool thing, and even on nasty weather days you could get all over the place without having to actually leave the indoors. It was pretty unique in that most cities didn't have it except for Minneapolis and their Skyway, and made Cincy stand out.

 

There's a lot missing now from downtown that I think once made it cool. It's not completely dead now, and even with some of the nice newer editions (Washington Park, a spruced up Fountain Square, The Banks), I just don't think it's as cool as it once was in more ways than one.

 

Friendship Park is awesome and I dig how you can power walk all the way from FP through Sawyer Point, Serpatine Wall over to Paul Brown Stadium.

 

If you ask me the Banks actually have a certain sterility about them in their look that I think could've been so much more stylistically. I wouldn't have minded if they would have tried to tie in an old feel Cincinnati vibe to the architecture next to the baseball stadium instead of generic sterile apartments above bars and restaurants. Could have had some old German stylings with flower boxes with flowers hanging down to give an old timey feel considering that the Reds are the first Major League team ever.

 

I miss things like The Movies repertoire theatre which showed underground films (which is now the Shakespeare Theater), or the Skywalk Cinemas. Various cool restaurants like Mullanes sidewalk cafe, and Carols. The old department store cafe's like at Shillito's or Mcalpin's Tea room.

 

It used to be sorta fun and exciting to go downtown, and I wouldn't say that it's completely boring now, but it just doesn't measure up to like it once did. :cry:

McDonald's to trim menu, examine ingredients - Cincinnati Bell

 

In just the past decade, McDonald's has added 100 items to its menu, said Andres, who stepped into his role in October. While that has driven up sales, it also complicated the menu and made it harder for people to quickly decide what they want.

 

So starting next month, he said McDonald's will cut eight items from the menu and reduce the number of Extra Value Meals from 16 to 11. Thompson and Andres didn't say exactly what will get the axe either, but favorites like the Big Mac likely won't disappear anytime soon.

 

Instead, Andres suggested McDonald's is looking at reducing the variations on particular item.

 

A representative for McDonald's said the company is testing a simplified menu that offers one Quarter Pounder with Cheese instead of four; one Premium Chicken sandwich instead of three; and one Snack Wrap instead of three.

I've pondered the double lane thing too myself trying to decide if it's a good or bad idea, and I've concluded that it does seem to have 3 main advantages.

 

1. Lessons the amount of cars wrapped around the building by condensing them to two lanes thereby causing less of an issue with cars entering the parking lot to park.

 

2. Gets the employees on top of your order sooner making the line go faster.

 

3. (For McDonald's sake) Gives the illusion that the line is not too long making some potential customers not reconsider and go to another restaurant instead.

Saw something on TV about this when they first started,not certain that it is the true. McDonald's claims the two biggest reasons for slow drive thru lines are customers ordering and customers paying. So, first they went with the double windows because most people do not have their money ready to pay by the time they get to the window. I think it probably has changed since most seem to use plastic now instead of cash. Secondly, is the double lane and it is because they claim that a lot of people take to long to order while others go really quickly with their orders. Side note, my wife HAS to look at the menu every time we go through the drive thru....I am always saying it is McDonald's you know what they serve....

That one has been gone for a long time as well. If you stay in downtown Cincinnati, you better like Subway or Skyline.

Funny Jimmy from Piqua story...sort of (not him in particular, obviously). I was at the aforementioned Speedway down in Covington right before the Brent Spence, pumping gas, and this older gentleman walks over to me and asks if I'm familiar with the area. I say, "yes sir, what can I do for you?" He says "I'm late for a meeting in 'Pa-Q-a (phonetic attempt)". I, of course, have no idea what he was trying to say and a "Three's Company-esque" conversation broke out. Eventually I figured out he meant "Pick-Wa", and explain that not only is he late, but he is over an hour away with traffic. He wasn't pleased.

Doesn't look like this is happening. Nothing has really changed at all.

The second was that Alexandria LaRosa's was moving to Cold Spring. It's been a few months on that one also, and so far they seem to be staying put. My source there was a contact who owns a lot of property in that area. He too should have solid info.

 

I was right on City Bar-B-Que a few years back, and had solid information that was correct on El Coyote's coming to Buckskin Bevs. They were down to the eleventh hour on that one before backing out. I think they made a mistake. ElC's would have done well there.

Count me as one who is very disappointed that it felt through. I was bummed when it was posted on here and still very bummed. Would have been walking distance for me and that would have been great for having a couple of drinks after working a Reds game.
