I could be wrong, but I dont think there are any hardees in the NKY area anymore. If I remember correctly one guy/group own the franchise territory rights for NKY area and closed them all years ago. They would be the only ones that can start up a Hardees.

I remember reading that on here, actually. Hardee's has made a pretty good comeback in the past decade and change from its terrible times when they tried to serve roast beef sandwiches and other Arby's-type fare. And their breakfast is tops as far as fast-food joints go. Those people who own the franchise rights in NoKy must not be interested in making money.

I'm with you about the skywalk. It was once a pretty cool thing, and even on nasty weather days you could get all over the place without having to actually leave the indoors. It was pretty unique in that most cities didn't have it except for Minneapolis and their Skyway, and made Cincy stand out.

 

There's a lot missing now from downtown that I think once made it cool. It's not completely dead now, and even with some of the nice newer editions (Washington Park, a spruced up Fountain Square, The Banks), I just don't think it's as cool as it once was in more ways than one.

 

Friendship Park is awesome and I dig how you can power walk all the way from FP through Sawyer Point, Serpatine Wall over to Paul Brown Stadium.

 

If you ask me the Banks actually have a certain sterility about them in their look that I think could've been so much more stylistically. I wouldn't have minded if they would have tried to tie in an old feel Cincinnati vibe to the architecture next to the baseball stadium instead of generic sterile apartments above bars and restaurants. Could have had some old German stylings with flower boxes with flowers hanging down to give an old timey feel considering that the Reds are the first Major League team ever.

 

I miss things like The Movies repertoire theatre which showed underground films (which is now the Shakespeare Theater), or the Skywalk Cinemas. Various cool restaurants like Mullanes sidewalk cafe, and Carols. The old department store cafe's like at Shillito's or Mcalpin's Tea room.

 

It used to be sorta fun and exciting to go downtown, and I wouldn't say that it's completely boring now, but it just doesn't measure up to like it once did. :cry:

I'm guessing Cincy's skyway wasn't all that different in those days.

Cincinnati certainly has its share of homeless, but where I got my real eye opener regarding how little we have it compared to some other bigger cities is when I was in Philadelphia and went for an early morning walk in the area of their City Hall.

 

The steps and the courtyard of that awesome architectural masterpiece were covered with sleeping homeless people to such large proportions that made my mouth drop open in disbelief. This was probably 20 years ago, so I have no idea how grave their homeless issue is today, but I just couldn't believe what I was witnessing, and how very small Cincinnati's problem looked by comparison.

Philly is 5x bigger than Cincy, just on the city limits population. The surrounding urban area is probably much bigger by comparison as well.
