Worlds worst cheap shot

Raceland has never ran up the score on anyone in' date=' at least, the past five years. However, last year during the Grewnup/Raceland game, the Rams had taken out all of their starters and had 22 JV and freshman players playing. Raceland had the ball and there was an entire fourth quarter left (11:30 left). Greenup had all of their starters in until at around the 7 minute mark when our coaches were wanting them to take out their starters. So, we threw a pass and the GC secondary missed a tackle and we scored. However, after that, GC too their starters out and received the message. I will give you footage as long as I can find it. The DB was a senior and had injured his ankle earlier in the first half and tried his best to play through it. He did, but was unable to run, only pass the ball (our QB as well). It wasn't soft, he was waiting for the clock to hit 0:00. None of this condones the late hit. It was a late hit. And it is a little embarrassing for the Ram fans. But you don't pass that late in the game. Period. Idc if you're Phelps, not to knock on Phelps, just trying to prove a point, or the New England Patriots, no team passes when you're up like that. It's not classy. I personally don't have very much respect for the W'Burg coaching staff for other reasons, this kind of adds to it. It is all about class. The player who hit the kicker got an ear full of it. I know Coach Salmons very well and he did handle the situation and I wouldn't be surprised if he suspended him from team actions for a few weeks. However, I don't know if he will, just a possibility. Raceland never reached this, ever. The kid was frustrated and let his emotions get to him. Happens often to any team and happens every year. I just find it amazing that this thread is even a thread. I believe that GCR Hoops is just trying to look for something to get started but I may be wrong. The way you are going about this argument/point you're trying to make seems like you are knocking on either the Rams or the Raceland posters. Either way, I find it, in itself, classless just as the hit is. But that isn't my business. I think you're right that it was a bad and late hit and was classless. But making it over dramatized as "Worst...Ever" is a bit much. I, personally, think you're trying to start something with the Raceland posters because of the incidents and comments in the Johnson Central and Belfry threads and I find a little immature to try and start something else because you haven't gotten your way. Nevertheless, maybe not. Maybe I am incorrect. Just looks like you're storing the pot and seeing what it might taste like after you stir it a little more. I hope I'm wrong. The hit was wrong. He was punished correctly. The pass and score was wrong. And that will also get treated correctly.[/quote']

Every team has that one guy who will take a cheap shot when reality sets in and it's all over. I can usually spot the guy by halftime here in Ohio. The coach did a nice job of reprimanding him immediately, I just hope it goes further than that. The kid doesn't mind getting yelled at in exchange for the cheap shot.

:no::no: That is not wrong to pass the ball with 3rd and 15 going in on the 21 with a 27-6 lead in the 4th quarter - especially when the opposing team stopped your running attack on the 2 previous plays. The 36 point rule with a running clock was initiated for a reason. The only reason a team should take a knee is if they can run the clock out to 0:00.

It happened with less than forty seconds left and with the 25 second clock after the reset there was no need to pass. I was there, I do not need to watch film. A running play would have been enough to run the clock out. What makes this play worse is Senior Josh Young was put back in the game at CB to be on the field for the final play. He suffered a high ankle sprain just before half and wasn't able to play defense in the second half. We were not calling any timeouts. As soon as Josh came onto the field, W'burg was yelling 10! 10! 10! (Josh's #). Then they threw the pass over him. This is why I am upset over the play. It doesn't excuse the hit on the kicker but I have to admit, my first thought after it happened was, "if they run the clock out, then the kicker would've never been out there."

Agreed. It wasn't classy at all for W'Burg. They were clearly going to win. Period. And they did it anyways. This is why I don't like the W'Burg coaching staff. Classless.

If Coach Herron was about running up scores then this Wburg team would rewrite the national scoring records... He has called off the dogs early and often on teams all season, there were teams that scored 21 points on us, you think they where better than Raceland...Do I wish we had taken a knee, yes especially after reading this thread...

I hate to see a kid hit a defenseless player like a kicker just because his team was behind and failed to defend a pass but it was handled well, hats off to coach Salmons...Not that it matters but the kid that caught the TD pass was a back up freshman WR...

Here's a YouTube link from VT teaching the "gator roll" technique and according to this it's legal...

I really hate both incidents happened, otherwise I had a great trip to Raceland and hope you all win them all next year unless you play Wburg...

Looks like an easy call to me. Pretty dirty in my opinion. Kickers are the most vulnerable players on the field and taking a free shot at one is cheap.

This drill you guys are talking about is nothing compared to what Lowery did to Messer, absolutely nothing in common. Everyone of you want to bash the kid for the cheap shot on your kicker and rightfully so, but to sit there and act like what Lowery did is simply part of the game is asinine. A cheap shot is a cheap shot. What the kid from Raceland did is cowardice and the same goes for the kid from Williamsburg.

Yes they were both cheap shots, one twisted a ankle or worse could have broke a bone, the other caused a concussion or worse could have caused a permanent brain injury...

This is a terrible thread and I am sorry to have participated in it...

A whole lot of people patting the coach on the back for what appears to be reprimanding the player but not too much to embarrass the player...

Are we sure he was actually reprimanding him? Yes, he gave him a good talking to but heck he might have been telling him look I have to do this, dont get mad at me, but to keep you and me from getting into a whole lot of trouble you will stand here and listen to what I have to say...

IDK, just spinning it a bit...hey everything is possible...Pete Rose struck out once...:thumb:

It's a cheap shot.

But if they don't fix the right side of the PAT line, Mayfield will be shaking hands with the holder on every PAT attempt this week.

I was on the sideline and he was reprimanded. Actually, if you could've heard what was said, you guys wouldn't even worry about the situation. It was wrong and he was and will continue to be reminded of what he did. I know the kid well and I know factually that he has remorse but it doesn't take away what he did.
