Worlds worst cheap shot

Featured Replies

For those defending the TD pass by saying "it was the only pass on the drive", you do realize that is exactly why it is low brow? If you have ran every play and appeared to be running the clock out and then pop a pass at the end trying to score... to me that is worse than coming out on the first play and taking a shot downfield.

Still doesn't excuse the kid's actions. If he is an underclassmen I would hope he sits out the first game next year as self imposed punishment.

:no::no::no:

That is not wrong to pass the ball with 3rd and 15 going in on the 21 with a 27-6 lead in the 4th quarter - especially when the opposing team stopped your running attack on the 2 previous plays. The 36 point rule with a running clock was initiated for a reason. The only reason a team should take a knee is if they can run the clock out to 0:00.

I would say it was a cheap shot. However, certianly not the "worst" thats for sure..... I will describe one of the worst cheap shots I have seen in 40 years of high school football. I will protect the guilty party and teams involved. It is a big rivalry game, the biggest in the state.... OK, you know who's playing. Im sure many folks on here remember if you attended the game, ie around 1977 . . . One team was punting and the other was receiving and called a fair catch. Befor the receiving deep man could catch the ball, he was blasted completely flat some 6 yards backwards by a player who was at full speed with the intention of hitting the deep man regardless if he had the ball or not... Completely defenseless and looking up at the ball. . . The deep man had no way of knowing what was about to hit him. . . The hit player was knocked unconscience for at least 4 minutes! The player that made the hit was congratulated by teammates and coaching staff as flags flew all over the field . . .

Nuff Said !!!

How much time was left on the clock when Williamsburg ran the 3rd and 15 play from the 21?

My statement about the only pass play was towards Little Ram who said, "Williamsburg was passing the ball instead of just taking a knee". They passed the ball 1 time, but not during the entire drive.

If there was less than 40 seconds on the clock when Williamsburg passed to the endzone, then Williamsburg's coaching staff is at fault. I cannot tell from the film how much time was left on the clock. However, it still does not excuse the Raceland player from the cheap shot.

Cheap shots are never acceptable even in retaliation.

However, if a team is giving you excessive cheapshots or running up the score (and I don't see that in this case unless I missed something) then fighting is OK with me.

Seriously? You have no problem with a fight breaking out among teams in a high school football game?

I'll say it was a cheap shot because that is what society expects.

But, have you ever seen what happens when a pitcher hits a teams clean-up hitter with a high hard one?

I, honestly, can't remember the number of cheap shots our kickers have taken after the opposing team seen the score as being "ran up". Were they cheap, yes, but not unexpected.

Retaliation is not the best course of action. But, every player on that field knew why that hit occurred, did any of them, on either team, seem surprised? It was wrong, but not unexpected.

Agree or Disagree

It is a cheap shot, not only should he get the flag, he should tossed out.

I have no problem with letting the other team know their actions are inappropriate.

Play the game until it is over.

The officials will handle that aspect of the game, not its participants.

The point differential nor the "running it up" debate has no bearing on the shot the kicker took. It is 100% unacceptable because of the potential of serious injury.

And they'll handle the fight should it happen. I'm not saying it is right but it's understandable.

I agree.

There should not be a fight. If there is, then the fight would also be inexcusable and subject to penalties - both during and after the game.
