Could Kentucky Beat the 76ers? NBA 2K15 Gives Us A Look

Featured Replies

Alex and Willie could already already be on the Sixers, Dakari and Karl could be next year. Then you throw in the big twin guards, along with Trey and Devin coming off the bench, id be happy to put money on UK to win 1/7 vs the Sixers.

The Sixers are a D-league team and so is Kentucky.

Only players I would consider putting on an NBA team, today, would be WCS and Johnson. They could guard and grab some boards. Towns is nowhere close to being able to compete at that level. Against Boston University, not the Celtics, he was lost. We are talking right now. Not how you project they will be.

Hey, I'm happy it's even a topic.

Answer is no.

I understand just disagree, 2 D league teams too me. Especially, come March once this team has 30+ games, I think they take 1 in 7.

Guys, it's about the level of play in the NBA. These guys do nothing but play basketball all day. Forget the big men; you might as well top each and every one of UK's backcourt players with a pat of butter before the Sixers' guards eat them for lunch.

Right....and the 76ers are not at THAT level.

What a thread, before you know we will have members in this thread saying a girls high school team would beat a boys freshmen team.

Right....and the 76ers are not at THAT level.

Even at the Sixers level... it's MUCH MUCH higher than the NCAA. The condition and skill of these guys is incredible.

In what universe do the Harrison twins even start to run an offense with MCW and Wroten breathing down their necks? And how are ANY of UK's perimeter players going to stop that backcourt from shooting at will?

It's more even in the front, I'll grant you that, but that backcourt is incredibly lopsided.

Consider the rule differences as well. All those big men for Kentucky? They're either going to have other giant guys right up on them if we play by college rules or, if we play by NBA rules, they can't camp out in the lane all day while UK sets up an offense.

Only player on the Sixers who would scare me is Michael Carter Williams. (Sorry Nerlens). Some of the other guys are former Cal recruits.

Again, I don't think this 76ers team is on THAT level--and they are proving that. Almost every player is a 1st or 2nd year player. This is a historically bad NBA team and (potentially) a historically good college team. How much better (in points) do you think this 76ers team is than UK?

15 or so; perhaps more.

All those advantages that make them so great as a college team are wiped out when playing against a team of professionals.

Kentucky is considerably larger than just about every team they'll play this year. Not so against the Sixers, who will start at 6-6, 6-6, 6-9, 6-10, and 6-11 against them.

That famed Kentucky platoon in which their depth will eventually wear on the other team? In this case, the other team also has a second group of NBA players.

As SI's Andy Glockner pointed out in his article on the subject: current Sixers center Henry Sims is averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Anthony Davis averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds in 30 minutes as a rookie... and Karl Towns and Willie Cauley Stein ain't Anthony Davis. It takes at least a year to adjust to the speed, the sets, and everything else that makes the NBA so much tougher than college. Sims right now is only slightly worse than a rookie Anthony Davis and so talking about Karl Towns or WCS as if they can just hop right in tomorrow is just incorrect.

This is fun and all... but it ain't happening.

It's not even fun though. Or funny. It's asinine. I want it scheduled now so I can laugh at all the UK fans who think they have a chance against the Sixers. Y'all should be worried about beating UL, Duke, UNC and Arizona. Not the Sixers.

I wonder if Noel would get ejected for putting WCS into the goal support. We saw what happened the last time a Wildcat said UK would beat the Sixers.

Not really disagreeing with you on any of this. If the spread is 15 points, then it would be logical to think that on a given night (1 in 7, 1 in 10) that this UK team could beat this 76ers team. The biggest factor to me is the 76ers youth--take out Mbah a Moute and the Russian guy and this is a college team 20 years ago (age-wise).

BTW, that comparison Glockner makes is somewhat flawed. WCS is not Anthony Davis but the next year edition of Henry Sims will not be either.

It's not about UK, it's more about the 76ers. I root for UK but I'm not depressed when they lose. I'm not THAT guy. I like it when UofL does well, too. Look at the ages of the 76ers. This is NOT an NBA team.

Here's how I view it. Everyone always says, "Well, even if UK has 5 or 7 or 9 NBA players on it, the 76ers have 12." That is where I typically end this debate. But an NBA roster will usually have 5 good starters, 5 veterans, and 2 young "rookies" (that is very vague). This 76ers team has 1 good starter, 1 veteran, and 10 young "rookies". This really is a D-league team with one good point guard.

BTW, that comparison Glockner makes is somewhat flawed. WCS is not Anthony Davis but the next year edition of Henry Sims will not be either.

Nor is Glockner saying it is.

What it suggests is that we all knew Davis was going to be a special player. He's 6-11 with an incredible wingspan, remarkable athleticism, and has tremendous skill with the ball, a rarity to be sure. Sims is not those things. Yet Sims in his third year has numbers very similar to a rookie Davis.

Even he took almost a full season to get used to how to play in the league. It's not happening in one game for WCS and Towns.

Personally, I don't think UK would beat an NBA team repeatedly, but I do think it very well could happen. Say the Sixers have an off night, and the Cats are firing on all cylinders; I think the Cats could take a game.
