Cleveland PD Shoots and Kills 12-Year-Old

Featured Replies

I think we should send members from every community to a police academy training class. Most people have no clue how an officer is trained. What we see on tv, is not reality.

A lot of agencies offer citizen police academies.

Tough week for Cleveland PD. They took a schizophrenic female to the ground and she died.

There is video of this shooting although it is not being released yet.

Report says the shooting took place from about 10 feet.

That raises a question to a novice like me.

If you're an officer and you're not sure if the kid has a real gun or not why are you getting within 10 feet with him still having the weapon in his waistband? Why wouldn't you take cover until he drops the gun? Doesn't it seem reckless/dangerous to get that close to someone who may have a gun?

Is that standard protocol?

To me, it looks like the officer was trying hard, even putting his life in danger, in attempts to get the gun away from him

So then you are justifying the officer's shooting of the kid because the officer made a bad decision (getting so close to someone he thought had a gun)?

If it was an adult he probably would have handled the situation differently in regards to how close he got. I can see someone trying to talk a kid down from a close distance more easily than a full grown adult.

Someone asked why the officer was so close to the kid, which that distance was too close. I was pointing out that the officer may have been that close thinking he could attempt to talk sense into the kid. Sadly that did not happen and the kid made a move which should not have, and the kid would have been shot at any distance. Just pointing out that the officer may have went above and beyond what he should have done putting his life in danger

Cleveland police say they still have not taken a formal statement from the officer who fired the shots. That seems odd.

According to testimony in the Wilson case, a lot of people say you should wait 72 hours before interviewing the shooter. The extra sleep cycles help them remember details they won't remember initially.

Seriously, why is there no outrage or rioting over this?

There is in Cleveland.

Police should be releasing the names of the two officers involved today.

On the heels of what is going on in our great nation, I will ask the elephant-in-the-room question (and I honestly do not know the answer, and in a perfect world this question should not matter): Was the officer who shot black or white?

It hasn't been released yet as to who the officers were.

The family of the kid is demanding that the police release the video to the public.

Now it looks like the video will be released on Wednesday at 1:00.

If kid clearly is pulling the gun out and refusing orders to put his hands up, this story should be over. If kid never goes for the gun, it will get ugly.
