Police weren't told that it was possibly a fake gun by dispatchers according to a story I read before church tonight.

Sad story, though...I can't imagine being the officer and having to live with this, even though it sounds like he did what he should have.

Story also said that the Orange tip was removed or covered in some way.

Why couldn't they rubber bullet him with a rifle?

The only question that's fair is should they have shot at all? Once the decision is made to shoot you shoot to kill.

You never approach someone using less force than they have...the police thought he had a pistol. Therefore they met force with force of equal or greater value.

Once he went to draw the gun out of his pants after being told to put his hands up (if that happened as reported), there wasn't much else they could have done...except take a chance with their life that he had no ill will or intent.

This is the gun I believe...

Jeff Follmer, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, said the officers were not told the caller thought the gun might be fake.

The officer called to the playground outside a city recreation center saw the pistol sitting on a table or bench, and watched the boy grab it and put it in his waistband, Follmer said.

Quote that the officer saw the boy grab it and put it in his waistband is a lot different than him being told to put his hands up and him pulling it.

From what I read he saw him pick it up of a table and put it in his waist band. He then told him to put his hands up at which point he reached for the gun.

They are two separate acts that happened one after the other the way I read it.

Gotcha. Definitely makes more sense.

Also, BB/Airsoft guns look way more realistic than toy guns.

Awful. This is one of those things where you wish it was like the movie "Groundhog Day"; and everyone could wake up and start the day over again.

So much pain all around.
