December 5, 201411 yr The officer that pulled the trigger was judged unfit for police duty and resigned before he could be fired from his previous job at the Independence Police Department. He was weepy and uncooperative at the shooting range. According to Independence Deputy Chief: "He could not follow simple directions, could not communicate clear thoughts nor recollections, and his handgun performance was dismal," Independence Deputy Chief Jim Polak wrote in a letter on November 29, 2012, according to records obtained by the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "For these reasons, I am recommending he be released from the employment of the city of Independence. I do not believe time, nor training, will be able to change or correct these deficiencies. "Polak also wrote that he believed there would certain situations during which Loehmann would "not react in the way instructed." He joined the Cleveland Police Department in March 2012 in part because his father said the "He wanted more action than the Independence Police Department could offer. It did seem like there was very little time for them to make an assessment of the situation before they pulled the trigger. It looked like he basically got out of the car shooting. I wonder how many people were in close proximity to the kid? It looks like they could have maybe stayed back and tried to use the loudspeaker to get him to put the gun down but without sound and being able to see everything I don't think there's enough there to do anything but accept that it is just a horrible situation.

Kid saw police and put gun in waist band and then goes to pull it out as pull up, just a mess all around.

I know a kid can kill you with a gun just as well as anyone but maybe they could have stayed back and tried to talk to him first. Impossible to know exactly how it went down from that video. I'd love to know where he got that gun from since his Mom said it wasn't his. I hope the legislation gets passed that forces the makers of those guns to make them less realistic/easy to make look real. That is at least 3 high profile cases that I can remember this year costing someone their life: This one, the guy at Wal Mart and the guy that was killed with the COPS cameraman all had airsoft guns.

Yeah, I don't know how to fix this. Parents and Kids need to learn to be responsible with all guns, not just real ones. Problem is that some kids want these types of guns to carry as a way to intimidate other kids, then when the police get involved bad things happen.

December 8, 201411 yr According to the attorney for the family of the victim the police tackled his 14 year old sister, handcuffed her and placed her in the back of their police car after shooting the boy. While doing this they did not attempt to provide any aid to the dying child. When his Mother arrived they threatened to put her in the back with her daughter when she wanted to see her son. They then refused to release the sister and made the Mom choose between going with her injured son or staying with her daughter who was in handcuffs.
