Cleveland PD Shoots and Kills 12-Year-Old

FWIW I'm glad my favorite police officer just got a body cam last week.

They aren't perfect and can shift around some however and don't always stay pointed at the best angle. Audio quality is excellent though.

So far, departments who are implementing them say complaints have went way down. People who interact with officers know they're being filmed and that it's going to be used against them if needed, so they act better. Same for officers. I would think that if I were an officer who'd been falsely accused of something that really ended up costing me, I'd wonder if it would have went differently had I been wearing one.

If kid clearly is pulling the gun out and refusing orders to put his hands up, this story should be over. If kid never goes for the gun, it will get ugly.

If he never reached for the gun, the Officer is in trouble.

If kid clearly is pulling the gun out and refusing orders to put his hands up' date=' this story should be over. If kid never goes for the gun, it will get ugly.[/quote']it may get ugly either way. As idiots will find any reason to cause havoc. Seriously, the video could show the kid point the gun right at the officer and people will still find a reason to complain, even if it was a real gun.

I just can't imagine that there is any way that the officer shot the child if he didn't go for or pull his gun. Is be more interested in how they approached him when he had it sitting on the table.

The bigger question to me is what kind of a parent lets their kid roam around with a realistic looking gun in a public place? We had pellet guns growing up and we were taught to treat them like real guns. We weren't allowed to have them out without permission. No excuse for him to be out there with that gun.

So I'll ask again. If the report says there is a gun in the possession of the person why would police roll right up him? Seems very dangerous for the officers involved.

Wow. That was fast. I'm not sure I understand why they pulled up so close to the "suspect" when they were told he had a gun. Shouldn't they have taken a more defensive position before approaching? It would be nice if we had audio to go along with it so we know if there was any exchange of words.

Looks like he was waving a gun around and looks like he pointed it in the direction of the officer. It also looks like the officer was quick to shot because he pointed it in his direction. Tough to see though.

It looks like they just came flying up and the suspect ended up really close to them.

Reports say the police said they originally thought the kid was about 20 years old.

Tamir didn't die immediately. Police are being criticized for waiting 4 minutes before starting first aid.

They were about 10 feet away from him, I find this hard to believe. Without hearing all the communications between the officers and the victim......to me it looks like someone had a "itchy trigger finger". :idunno:

The officer that pulled the trigger was judged unfit for police duty and resigned before he could be fired from his previous job at the Independence Police Department. He was weepy and uncooperative at the shooting range. According to Independence Deputy Chief: "He could not follow simple directions, could not communicate clear thoughts nor recollections, and his handgun performance was dismal," Independence Deputy Chief Jim Polak wrote in a letter on November 29, 2012, according to records obtained by the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "For these reasons, I am recommending he be released from the employment of the city of Independence. I do not believe time, nor training, will be able to change or correct these deficiencies.

"Polak also wrote that he believed there would certain situations during which Loehmann would "not react in the way instructed."

He joined the Cleveland Police Department in March 2012 in part because his father said the "He wanted more action than the Independence Police Department could offer.
