Facebook vacation

I decided to take a break from Facebook and deactivated my account this morning. There are many things I love about Facebook, but there are also somethings I dislike, and I spent way too much time on there.

 

What are some of the things you like/dislike about Facebook?

 

How many of you have deacitvated your account before? How long did you stay away before reactivating your account? How many of you never went back?

Never had one. So I have to FB vicariously through all of you cats.

I've considered deleting it but I don't get on it very much anymore. There isn't much I like about it at this point. I need it for Candy Crush so people can send me lives.

I deactivated mine for five months last year, and honestly it was quite peaceful. However once I decided to get back on there, I started to spend way to much time on there again.

I hope you didn't post something to the effect of "Going to take some time off of Facebook for a while" on your page, and leave it active for a couple of hours afterwards so everyone could beg you to stay. Because THAT is one of my least favorite things.

 

I don't understand how people let Facebook run their lives. I check it a couple of times per day -- More if I'm engaged in a discussion -- and move on. The people refreshing their phones constantly, I don't get it. I've never made mine inactive for any particular period, and don't see the need. It's not a problem for me. And I'm quite confident that I could close my account and never look back.

 

I enjoy interacting with others on there, and it's a similar reason as to why I get on BGP. It's not a substitute for the real thing, but if I'm home and bored otherwise (as I am currently), why not?

Facebook is what you make it. They have added a new feature where you can unfollow family or friends that you can't delete so I no longer see people that get on my nerves that I can't delete. Facebook has been a much more pleasurable experience once I began doing that.

 

I used to be on there alot. With the exception of today and me posting pictures of my grandson I normally spend less than 10 minutes a day on there.

If you deactivate your account, do you have to start all over with getting your friends list started?

 

I like facebook to stay in touch with my sisters and nieces and nephews. I am a 7 hour drive from any family. I have also connected with dozens of cousins and tons of high school and college classmates. So that has been cool.

 

I hate political rants on fb, so I have deleted most of those folks.

The unfollow feature has been a nice addition, though.

Had a pretty good college friend say something along the lines of "Unfollow me if you voted for Mitch McConnell". Well, I did what he asked.

 

Facebook has some Drama Queens man.

I don't think so. I think that you can deactivate it and it holds your account for a certain amount of time. If you reactivate it within that time period you are restored like you never left.

Depends on how much I really like you. :lol2: If I like you, but you just say stupid things occasionally, I'll just unfollow. If you are one of those people that I wouldn't pee on if you were on fire, AND you say something stupid, then I delete.

Political rants is one of the things I hated about Facebook. I also hated the drama that people would post daily. I would delete people, but that just leads to hard feelings and awkward situations, and just opens the door for more drama IMO.
