Never been on Facebook. Literally, never been on a page before.

It serves it's purpose for many--although, that purpose varies (certainly some good and bad). To keep up with family and friends far away it's ok. Haven't read all the posts on here but don't knock it as a waste of time or the people on it if you're sitting there with 20,000 posts on BGP. Sure, some people on there are ridiculous but it's just one of many social media platforms.

It's not Facebook, it's people's so-called friends on Facebook! Yet people delete Facebook, which is no the trouble, but keep all the same friends, who are the trouble. Just delete and block the drama queens. lol ;)

Amen.

I'm rarely on there. Mrs. S uses my account for her Farm Town gaming. She lets me know if somebody has tagged me or left me a message. That's generally the only time I go on.

I deactivated my account at the beginning of the summer. I haven't missed anything about it.

I checked it compulsively, even when I knew there was no reason to be on there. I'd open my browser, check email, facebook, etc. every time. I would do the same thing on my phone.

I also realized there is a perverse psychology to facebook. People only post what they want others to see/know, which means most of what you're reading or looking at is rather vain. A lot of it seemed artificial. I've read studies before about how there's a "facebook depression" where people look at everyone else's wonderful lives and feel like their own doesn't measure up. But, people are mostly the same, it's just that they post the "highlight reel" to facebook instead of the mundanities and obstacles in life. I also just read this column yesterday about a sort of "group think" that happens on facebook: How Numbers on Facebook Change Behavior - The Atlantic

Facebook's emotion experiment sort of tipped me over the edge too. Why am I on a service that can affect a person's mood so readily?

Lastly, I just didn't get much out of it anymore. I realized I was inundated with updates and such from people I can't remember having met or who I haven't talked to in years. I mostly talk to the people I want to as it is. Why am I wasting my time reading a post about a new puppy by someone I think I had English class with as a sophomore when I can just call or text the people I'm interested in hearing about. (I just got a text this morning from a friend asking how I was doing because they didn't see my on their friends list anymore. I said "that wasn't so hard, was it?" :lol2:)

I realize this is rambling and drifting into B-Ball-Fan territory, but I've been a lot more interested in analyzing it since I left it. I wonder how long I'll be able to get by without an account before it's a de facto requirement to have an online identity. There are already some sites that require you to have an account. I'm usually gung-ho about technology, but I'm oddly resistant here.

Just so you know that someone is listening, I read your entire post before I even realized that I was mentioned in it. Thanks for the recognition. :thumb:
