Auburn and Ole Miss win out

 

Alabama beats Miss. St.

 

That creates a logjam of 4 teams with 2 losses.

 

 

 

The questions:

 

Who gets the tiebreaker to win the West and represent in the title game?

 

What if it's Ole Miss (who I think most would agree is the weakest of those four teams)? And what if they lose to presumably Georgia?

 

Does a 2-loss SEC West team that didn't even make the conference title game deserve to make the final 4? Consider that FSU is already in, and you've got the Oregon/ASU winner with one loss for another spot. Whatever emerges from the Big 10 morass figures to have one loss, and the same goes for the Big 12.

 

This could get weird before it's all said and done.

Auburn would be the rep. The first tiebreaker is head to head among the teams. Auburn and Ole Miss would both carry 2-1 records against the others in the grouping. The provisions are that if the first tiebreaker eliminates the other teams then it reverts to the two team tiebreaker. And at that point Auburn wins thanks to their head to head victory over Ole Miss.

 

I mentioned similar things in another thread, but in that scenario MSU is probably out for having lost two of their final three games. It stinks but it's reality. Ole Miss would be in slightly better shape having had time to recover from their two straight losses. I could see them being close. I think Alabama might still have a shot thanks to their perception as a team.

I just don't think Bama loses at home to Auburn after last year's game. I'm less sure about MS but getting them at home gives the Tide a significant edge.

Let's take it this way:

 

If Alabama beats Mississippi State by around a touchdown, then the SEC has to like their chances.

 

A 1 loss Mississippi State, with that loss coming to Alabama, who is probably the SEC's choice as the best representative, then both are likely to make the playoff.

 

If they get there, then the committee isn't likely to have a rematch (especially so soon) in the 1st Round (but if they did, it'd guarantee an SEC representative in the final). Splitting them means there's a chance of an all-SEC final, and you aren't risking a ton thinking they could each win versus weighing the probability that they both lose in the 1st Round and neither gets there.

 

What do you think? Will the stripes possibly have a hand in keeping MSU from getting blown out in a loss that would drop them too far down in the rankings?

I'm just saying that as someone who has seen Arizona and Kentucky in person, Kentucky would beat Arizona on a neutral field if you put a gun to my head and make me pick.

Personally, I think the Arizona team I saw squeak out a 3 point win over a UTSA team who plays in CUSA and is sitting at 2-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play looked worse than the UK team I saw getting blown out in Baton Rouge.

 

Kentucky nearly played Mississippi State (who isn't the best team in the nation) as close as UTSA played Arizona.

 

It'd be a good game if they played on a neutral field and each were playing near their best, but I think it's crazy to say Kentucky couldn't beat them 6 times if they played 100.

Joker, you cannot compare teams based on one game each. You are comparing Arizona's worst game against UK's most likely best game. How about if you saw AZ beat Oregon and compared that game against UK's butt whipping against Georgia?? Your take would be totally different. AZ is 7-2 and ranked #14 in the country by the Committee for a reason...
