6A Playoff Preview - Public School Final Four?

Featured Replies

Region 1

Region 1 is the most talked about region of the state. The number one question most everyone is asking, "Will the super district teams sweep round 1 of the playoffs". This region has some of the most storied programs in the state.

Male enters playoffs a perfect 10-0 on the season winning the super district with a road win over Trinity. Male offense has racked up 385 points while having a stiff defense that has only allowed 116 points this season. The best second round game of the 6A playoffs may be the possible rematch of Male and Trinity. Good news for Male they will have home field advantage.

St. Xavier has proven to be the second best team in the region. With a win over rival Trinity this season locks them into the easier road to the Regional Final. St. Xavier has scored only 214 points this season and has been shut-out twice this season.

Region1 Championship: Male 28 St. Xavier 17

Region 2

Judging from the regular season this region may be the toughest to predict. Last year’s 6A Champion Scott County and the Runner-Up Meade County are in this region. Scott County has put together another high scoring offense as they have racked up 479 points this season while their defense has been very tough giving up 176 points on the season. The difference between last season versus this seasons is Scott County fell to district foe Bryan Station during the regular seen.

Bryan Station seems to be the most talented in the region but they have been up and down the last couple of weeks. Henry Clay has proved they must not be overlooked and is a serious threat for the regional title. Another team that everyone should be concerned about is Central Hardin who finished undefeated on the season with the help of a stingy defense that is only giving up 14 points per game. The issue with Central Hardin people are not sure if their schedule has prepared them for what it takes to endure a playoff run.

Region 2 Championship: Scott County 45 Bryan Station 14

Region 3

Region 3 has one thing going for them; they look to have the shortest distance in travel. At first glance one would think that Butler (7-2) would be a heavy favorite to win this Region. But, as of late, Ballard looks as if they have gotten on the right track to make a run to the Regional Final. The Bruins have won 4 straight and during this run the have averaged 35 points per game. Most interesting game of the region will be the Pleasure Ridge Park-Ballard game in Round 2.

Regional 3 Championship: Ballard 27 Butler 21

Region 4

Region 4 could be the easiest to predict. Of the 8 teams that made the playoffs 5 of them have losing records. Looking at this part of the bracket the Northern Kentucky teams have to feel pretty good about their chances.

Dixie Heights enters the playoffs with a 9-1 record. They have won 9 straight games since their opening season loss. Dixie is scoring an average 34 points per game and giving up 15 points. They look to have a pretty easy path to the regional final.

Lafayette and Simon Kenton look to the next best teams in region 4. These two teams should meet in the second round of the playoffs with Lafayette having home field advantage. I think the Generals have a good enough offense at 38 points per game that should bold well for their attempt to reach the regional final.

Region 4 Championship: Lafayette 35 Dixie Heights 28

Semi-Finals: Male 35 Scott County 32

Semi- Finals: Ballard 24 Lafayette 14

State Championship: Male 35 Ballard 14

Bryan Station wont survive an away game at Central Hardin. Central Hardin and Meade have got to be the 2 best defenses in the state and what wins championships?

Central Hardin and Meade haven't played the schedule others have played.

This title should read JCPS Final.

I don't think Lafayette can get by Simon Kenton. There might be a Dixie vs SK part 2.

Good one, you are right, I need to be more creative. I guess I used it all up on the 4A title.

Central Hardin and Meade haven't played the schedule others have played.

I agree with this comment but I will say that Central Hardin is big and very athletic. I can see them beating Bryan Station but I just don't see them beating a very good Scott County team.

Central is neither big or athletic. They played a very weak schedule at least Meade played 3 6A teams to include the #1 6A team (Male). If not for a few key injuries Meade easily beats Central. Meade's defense has faced the best in 6A. can't say that about Central. Central still has to prove themselves in 6A. Meade already did that last year and again this year against Male.

Bottom line, they beat you and they are the top seed in your district. What Meade did last year has no relevance on this year. It is obvious you hate Central Hardin and that is fine, but you might want to start worrying about your own matchups as I don't see you even making it far enough to play Central Hardin should they win their first two games.

I guess we will see. I don't hate Central, I just think they are overrated. Central scored 7 points with two key Meade defensive starters hurt, not to mention their starting FB, who at 50% still out gained Central's FB. Arnette got a whooping 35 yards on 15 carries...15. Yes we have a difficult path. But the comment was "Central Hardin and Meade haven't played the schedule others have played." My point is Meade has proven itself in 6A..Central has not. I quote the Guru..."The issue with Central Hardin people are not sure if their schedule has prepared them for what it takes to endure a playoff run."

I think Dixie is playing in the title game.

I think so too. I'm not sure Lafayette, Ballard, Butler, et al. are as good as the Red Colonels. The right hand side of the 6A bracket is much weaker than the left side.

BGP misses on four in the 6A regional finalists - Trinity, Central Hardin, Meade County and Simon Kenton made it instead of Male, Scott County, Bryan Station and Lafayette.

Ballard is the only predicted final four team still alive.

Lafayette had no home field advantage against SK. SK had 3 times more fans than them. SK is on a quest to their first state title!
