  1. Coverage of the 12th Region Final can be heard at High School Sports - Lake Cumberland Sports Tip-off is set for 7pm. Air time 6:45pm. We have archived the broadcasts of every 12th Region tournament game as well.
  2. We know that earlier in the school year the Purples won the 5A State Championship on the gridiron. Some feel there is a chance that the Purples basketball team (mostly Juniors!) can do the same. Anyone know of some schools in the bluegrass that has captured both football and basketball championships in the same year? Crazy thought: It MAY happen this year AND next year!
  3. Region 1 Region 1 is the most talked about region of the state. The number one question most everyone is asking, "Will the super district teams sweep round 1 of the playoffs". This region has some of the most storied programs in the state. Male enters playoffs a perfect 10-0 on the season winning the super district with a road win over Trinity. Male offense has racked up 385 points while having a stiff defense that has only allowed 116 points this season. The best second round game of the 6A playoffs may be the possible rematch of Male and Trinity. Good news for Male they will have home field advantage. St. Xavier has proven to be the second best team in the region. With a win over rival Trinity this season locks them into the easier road to the Regional Final. St. Xavier has scored only 214 points this season and has been shut-out twice this season. Region1 Championship: Male 28 St. Xavier 17 Region 2 Judging from the regular season this region may be the toughest to predict. Last year’s 6A Champion Scott County and the Runner-Up Meade County are in this region. Scott County has put together another high scoring offense as they have racked up 479 points this season while their defense has been very tough giving up 176 points on the season. The difference between last season versus this seasons is Scott County fell to district foe Bryan Station during the regular seen. Bryan Station seems to be the most talented in the region but they have been up and down the last couple of weeks. Henry Clay has proved they must not be overlooked and is a serious threat for the regional title. Another team that everyone should be concerned about is Central Hardin who finished undefeated on the season with the help of a stingy defense that is only giving up 14 points per game. The issue with Central Hardin people are not sure if their schedule has prepared them for what it takes to endure a playoff run. Region 2 Championship: Scott County 45 Bryan Station 14 Region 3 Region 3 has one thing going for them; they look to have the shortest distance in travel. At first glance one would think that Butler (7-2) would be a heavy favorite to win this Region. But, as of late, Ballard looks as if they have gotten on the right track to make a run to the Regional Final. The Bruins have won 4 straight and during this run the have averaged 35 points per game. Most interesting game of the region will be the Pleasure Ridge Park-Ballard game in Round 2. Regional 3 Championship: Ballard 27 Butler 21 Region 4 Region 4 could be the easiest to predict. Of the 8 teams that made the playoffs 5 of them have losing records. Looking at this part of the bracket the Northern Kentucky teams have to feel pretty good about their chances. Dixie Heights enters the playoffs with a 9-1 record. They have won 9 straight games since their opening season loss. Dixie is scoring an average 34 points per game and giving up 15 points. They look to have a pretty easy path to the regional final. Lafayette and Simon Kenton look to the next best teams in region 4. These two teams should meet in the second round of the playoffs with Lafayette having home field advantage. I think the Generals have a good enough offense at 38 points per game that should bold well for their attempt to reach the regional final. Region 4 Championship: Lafayette 35 Dixie Heights 28 Semi-Finals: Male 35 Scott County 32 Semi- Finals: Ballard 24 Lafayette 14 State Championship: Male 35 Ballard 14 *Preview complied by BGP Staff Members
  4. Do you want to prove to people you're a knowledgeable basketball person for the entire season and not some Johnny-come-lately bandwagoner who makes good picks late in the season? BGP is having a contest to pick the 16 region winners.... right now! BGP's "Sweet 16 in November" Contest is easy to play. 1.) Pick who you think will win regions 1-16 (worth 1 point for each correct pick) 2.) Pick the two teams who you think will play for the state title. (3 pts. for each team) 3.) Pick who you think will be the 2012-13 state champ (worth 5 points) In case of a tie, Tiebreaker #1 will be the total number of correct picks from regions 1-16 Tiebreaker #2 will be time. The deadline to enter picks is Friday, November 30 at 5pm ET. All entries should follow the following format. If not, they will be disqualified 1st Region: 2nd Region: 3rd Region: 4th Region: 5th Region: 6th Region: 7th Region: 8th Region: 9th Region: 10th Region: 11th Region: 12th Region: 13th Region: 14th Region: 15th Region: 16th Region: Championship Game: Team a vs. Team b 2013 Sweet 16 State Champion:
