We know that earlier in the school year the Purples won the 5A State Championship on the gridiron. Some feel there is a chance that the Purples basketball team (mostly Juniors!) can do the same.

Anyone know of some schools in the bluegrass that has captured both football and basketball championships in the same year? Crazy thought: It MAY happen this year AND next year!

Trinity, 2011 or 2012 I think

If Trinity did it in 2011 and 2012 does this mean Bowling Green is cheating? Just a thought.

The answer is NO. They have talent and Great Coaching just like Trinity.

Owensboro came as close as you can without doing it last year with a runner up in football and championship in basketball.

...and maybe most importantly, the ENTIRE system, all the way to Central Office, believes that success in ALL areas translates to academic success.

Scott County did the same thing in 11 and 12 when Trinity won both.

Interesting thread. Came up in a conversation in the fall, talking about CovCath winning Basketball (single-class sport) in 2014 and then Soccer (single-class sport) in 2015. Not to mention, lost in the state final 4 in basketball sandwiched in between in March of 2015. Solid run.

Are Carothers and Wilson the only two players who see significant time on the basketball team to also play football?

The last two years basketball championships have been as close as 2 schools can get...

Scott County wins football, Runners-up in basketball 2014

Owensboro wins basketball, Runners-up in basketball 2015

We've got some solid, solid athletic programs in the bluegrass. :thumb:

Has any school other than Trinity actually done it? Y'know, won State in both Basketball and Football in the same scholastic year.

I would think there had been one or two schools just given how long the tournaments have been held, but I can't call any other teams to mind.

Trinity is the only one right now

Let them win the 4th Region before this thread pops up. Warren Central is playing good basketball right now. Don't jinx it.

Well, they do have the "transfer" kid from Nashville.:sssh:
