Romney's 47 percent comment probably lost him the remaining 10 percent in some of these urban precincts. This isn't about bell curves. It's about saying stupid stuff.

Urban precincts where they care very little about anything other than who is going to keep the checks coming ( the democrat party ) . It is demographics , race combined with an explosion of low info voters who just want Uncle Sam to take care of them

Why is this still an issue in this day and age? We can’t come up with a simple solution that both sides can agree on? Why don’t we just take a portion of ad money from all candidates running at every level in every precinct in every city and state, have voters with no ID thumb printed, take their photo and let them vote. Their ID can be sent to them before the next elections and they can last as long as or longer than a driver license. Shut-ins can have the same done by approved volunteers from a bipartisan committee. This seems extremely doable to me.

That sounds like an acceptable solution. You know from my experience with my disabled mother, that my worry would be for those in her situation. I think your committee idea could work.

Your idea is definitely on the right track, but the idea would never fly with the GOP higher-ups. Three states now have turned to mail ballots for all elections. Send a ballot to the home address of every registered voter. How simple is that? No election day ID spats to worry about. No lingering issues with voting machines. Serious money saved in election costs. Voter also has more time to make wise ballot decisions. After Oregon instituted postal balloting, voter participation rose to close to 80 percent, far above the average.

To be honest, I can see why the mail thing could be a problem. How do you prove who's voting? That's why I like my idea of thumb or finger print, you have proof of who voted. An ID should be required and I think my solution is viable. I understand that the idea would be a challenge, but in all honesty it would be from both sides, not just the GOP. If we have enough of "the people" getting on board with something like what I proposed, we can make it happen. It needs a grassroots movement, I'm just not adept at something like that.

Standing in long lines on a cold, rainy work day Tuesday in November is a mighty small price to pay for the privilege to vote in this great country, but I get your point. I just think a fingerprint and a photo ID solves the problem and makes it hard to cheat. We are in agreement that something needs to be done. Now, if we can just get both sides in agreement on a valid solution since both sides are the problem.

Seems like there are too many things that could go wrong with mail ballots. Is there any tracking once they are mailed? Meaning how do I know that my ballot made it and was counted?

Voting by mail, in my opinion, is a horrible horrible horrible idea. If one thinks there are problems now, and yes there are problems...but voting by mail has a tremendous amount of possible fraud issues/problems.

I read that stat to mean that a higher proportion of the African American population voted than other ethnicities.

I was asked for my ID today (I live almost with in view of the polls) I started to hand over my drivers license, but gave them my Concealed Carry Permit instead..lady just looked at me and said "Umm, OK"
