Eight Year Old Scores Touchdown, His Team Is Fined $500

Featured Replies

The kid, who is playing in his first year of football, intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown. The only problem is his team was winning 32-0 at the time. The league has penalties in place if you beat another team by move than 33 points. His team was fined $500 and his coach suspended for a week. To top it all off it was his first touchdown.

I understand mercy rules but I don't see how you can penalize a coach for a defensive player scoring a touchdown. Do they really expect an 8 year old to remember that he better fall on the ball after an interception?

Wow...

If you aren't allowed to beat someone by more than 33 points, why not just stop the game once a team is up that much??

Some people are just stupid. :ohbrother:

If that was my boy, and I knew the rules, I would have had the check written before he crossed the goal line.

What is going on with this freaking country?! So, lets say that was the score at half time. Is the winning team just supposed to forfeit the ball when they get it on offense the 2nd half? Do they LET the other team score so they can then play offense and score? Good gosh oh mighty.

Why doesn't the league fine and suspend the coach who is getting beat that bad because he either can't draft very well, or he sucks at coaching.

$500??? That's nuts!

I think I remember us discussing this when the new rule was announced.

Suspended? Good lord. Fined? Come on.

"Ok kids, we are up by 32. Johnny, go into a shotgun formation. Timmy, snap it to him on 2. Johnny, when you get the ball...fall down."

I don't understand how it is okay for one team to try to pass to make the game closer but the other team gets fine when they are bad enough at it that the defense scores. What would have happened if they were winning 32-0 and the team that was behind snapped the ball over the punter's head and out of the end zone for a safety?

Absolute lunacy. So where does the $500 go? So an unpaid coach has to pay $500? Is this even legal?

Serious question of a what if.

What if, losing team was at its own 5 yard line, set to punt, ball goes out of end zone, Safety for Defense, Oh no were over the limit now on scoring. Would they get fined?

I wish that happened. Then to show the absurdity of the rule the winning team that is now going to receive the free kick should catch it and run out of it's own end zone to give those two points back.
