What if, losing team was at its own 5 yard line, set to punt, ball goes out of end zone, Safety for Defense, Oh no were over the limit now on scoring. Would they get fined? Or what if the punter fumbles the ball in the end zone, does the D just stand there and look at it?

Erik Richards said the team made a mockery of the game by laying on the ground, running off the field and mocking the other players. Richards said in essence, they showed unsportsmanlike conduct. Richards said the fine for violating the mercy rule is $100. In some cases, Richards said the fine will be waived if it is a defensive play, similar to the play that was scored. Richards said he is glad that the media covered what happened because he wants it to be an example for other teams who he said show unsportsmanlike conduct, that they will be fined. Looks like the league said the fine was for unsportsmanlike behavior not for violating mercy rule.

That sounded to me like the players were mocking Erik Richards & his inane rules, not the other team.

So then you snap the ball and lay on the ground, or run straight to the sidelines and out of bounds so you don't score, and you can't do that either?

October 29, 201411 yr That's the biggest problem with this generation. We call EVERYBODY winners because well, you can't tell little Johnny his team isn't any good. When the good team actually do win, they are punished. EVERYBODY gets a trophy because again, little Johnny would cry if he didnt so lets make sure everyone does. The kids are babied entirely too much. They will never have a work ethic because they've never had to have one. Its annoying and frustrating to see.
