I am very skeptical about this year's Williamsburg team. A lot of people are saying they aren't doing as well as they were last year. However, many say they are working on their run game. The margins of their wins aren't as large as they were last year and have everyone back. They are winning their games so I don't see them dropping. Just curious more than anything.

They are taking their starters out earlier than last year, probably due to the fact they will be losing so many seniors this year and want to get the younger kids plenty of playing time. One of the parents told me that the starters were out with 10 minutes left in the first half against Berea(1st team offense only played 16 plays in the game) and that they didn't play the second half against Campbellsville either.

There biggest problem my be not being tested enough this year. They have had a running clock in every game but one, and in that game they had several turnovers and 150 yards or so in penalties.

That's my concern with them.

Their schedule isn't anywhere remotely close to the difficulty of their schedule last year. It will be the Regional Finals before they even see a quality team.

That was going to be my next point. I really don't know if they will make another state championship appearance this year. They will likely play a very good Pikeville team, or hopefully the Rams again in the semi finals. :sssh:

I just didn't know what the reasoning was why they were closer than what they really should be. Thanks 4chs!

I like Raceland to be ranked ahead of Frankfort. Everything else looks good.

The Rams are good and I think they could beat Frankfort or Williamsburg. The quarter finals and on should be really fun to watch this year for Class A.

I agree. You don't really know how you will react to adversity unless you face some along the way. It sounds as if they got a little rattled in the Newport game, which resulted in lots of penalties. Also by playing better competition, your weaknesses are exposed and you have time to do something about them before getting deep into the playoffs.

Good point about the weaknesses. I agree with this. This is one of the main reasons Raceland plays Ashland as the second game. Number one, we go in thinking we can win every year, number two, they are usually a very good team year in and year out and they cause us a little trouble. In result, shows us our weaknesses. I always loved playing the Tomcats.

I agree with the comments on Williamsburg above. I just don't know about them. They don't have any wins over a really good team and the Newport game is certainly a bit of a red flag. Newport is pretty good but I think the top 6 teams in 1A would all beat Newport by an easier margin than Williamsburg did. They will be an interesting team to watch in the playoffs.

Williamsburg also catches the bad end of the odd-even playoff setup. Being in District 5, a regional final would almost assuredly take place at Hazard and then a state semifinal would be at either Raceland or Pikeville. I'm not saying the Yellowjackets can't win those games, but they would definitely have a hard row to hoe.

so last year they had the benefit of those games at home!
