Mayfield leaves 1A after this season.

 

How may students does Mayfield have?

I'm game. Looks good to me! I'm tired of running clocks and boring games that the fans fall asleep. Let's bring on the big games.

 

 

Schedule up

 

We do it, out early schedule 1. Ft. Campbell, McCracken Co, Tilghman, Murray, Graves County

 

 

Mayfield would not likely play in a opening week game against another team in their class. This is a long standing policy of not playing another team that is in the same class that you could face again in the playoffs. We have broke that rule once in late 70's when we played Corbin in the Rec Bowl but that is it. Of course since we are leaving 1A we could play anyone not in class 2A but we have only played 1 team ever that was a lower class than ours and that was Paris in the early 80's. Broke their winning streak that year

Williamsburg is the real deal. You all keep talking about their schedule being weak. Newport is a sound program and Campbellsville will be a tough out in the playoffs in Class A football. Not to mention that Williamsburg is beating these teams soundly. You can keep trying to talk yourself into thinking Williamsburg is not as good as advertised. My friends, they ARE better this year than they were last year. Good Luck to ALL Class A programs this weekend.

 

 

Are they about 100 points better? They could have lost by a 100 in the state game had Mf not called off the dogs and that is not a exaggeration. They would need to improve 10 fold to have a chance in my opinion and it is made worse by playing sisters of the poor in the regular season. Hard to find weaknesses when you are blowing out inferior teams and hard to get use to the speed and athletic-ness you will see in the late playoff rounds if you don't play like competition

I don't like the idea of playing regular season games against a team you are likely or might meet in the playoffs. Put this together with teams from 1A vs. 2A, match 1A Beechwood vs. 2A Mayfield and I am all in. I would love to see Mayfield vs. Beechwood in years to come. It will be very tough to do with the driving distance between the two.

 

If it was East vs. west you would only play a team that you might see in the finals.

Mayfield is the best in Class A Toothpick, that is true as it gets. But I dont recall even mentioning Mayfield. I was asked to back up my opinions by a Raceland alum. I was at the finals last year and saw it with my own eyes. Personally, I dont think anyone in the East bracket can beat Mayfield, but I dont think they will cancel the game cause of Mayfield's SEC schedule. Good Luck to All Class A programs this weekend.

I would rather get beaten by a great Mayfield team in the finals (if we ever get over the hump and get there) as opposed to winning against a lesser opponent.

As we tell our kids, "I'd rather you earn a hard B than get an easy A in the classroom."

That being said, I wouldn't turn down the trophy or the title. :thumb:

Why do coaches not want to play someone in their Class if it is on the other side of the state? Especailly if it is a quality team.

IDK but that has been a unwritten standing Mayfield policy that appears to have started with current Coach Joe Morris's father who took over as Coach in the early 70's. Though it has never been brought up it is just obvious over the years

While I am sure that would be the answer for Bw I would also bet that their answer changes if they beat us this year which is certainly possible. A Bw win this year would put that Bw swagger back in the Tigers that we have taken from them

Playoff time is nearing and I am excited for it..we seen firsts last year and I think we may see some again this year..
