Yes they did. If Williamsburg makes it back they have deserved it... A trip to Hazard and then Pikeville or Raceland in back to back weeks will be a tough test..

Williamsburg is the real deal. You all keep talking about their schedule being weak. Newport is a sound program and Campbellsville will be a tough out in the playoffs in Class A football. Not to mention that Williamsburg is beating these teams soundly. You can keep trying to talk yourself into thinking Williamsburg is not as good as advertised. My friends, they ARE better this year than they were last year. Good Luck to ALL Class A programs this weekend.

You know what would be awesome to see is you take the top 4 teams from the East and West and match them up for the KY East/West bowl game to be played in Frankfort every year at Kentucky State University.

 

Just think this year it could have seen these teams play -

 

Beechwood vs. Pikeville

Mayfield vs. Williamsburg

Frankfort vs. Raceland

Russellville vs. Hazard

Williamsburg also catches the bad end of the odd-even playoff setup. Being in District 5, a regional final would almost assuredly take place at Hazard and then a state semifinal would be at either Raceland or Pikeville. I'm not saying the Yellowjackets can't win those games, but they would definitely have a hard row to hoe.

 

As FanofMany said, last year they had the best road you could ask for in the playoffs. They had four straight at home.

What evidence do you have to support your opinion? They have a very weak schedule, including the Newport game. Newport is a good team don't get me wrong, but if the Williamsburg team this year is better than that team of last year, they most definitely should have beat them by a larger margin. I played against last year's Williamsburg team in the semi finals. It was 14-7 at halftime. I am not saying that they didn't deserve the win because they did; they played their butts off and deserved the victory in every means. But my point is, I think last year's Raceland team could have beaten them. What stood out was the game plan that was executed perfectly by the Yellow Jackets. Last year, the Rams were simply out coached. I don't think they are as good as last year. Before the season started, I never looked or talked down on Williamsburg. In fact, I was telling everyone on here that they were going to be a heck of a team. Not saying they aren't because they are, they're 8-0, but what factors qualify them as an elite team? The fact that they are 8-0 does not cut it. What makes them elite? What can you tell people to prove that they are an elite class 1A football team?

 

Again, I am not dogging the Yellow Jackets, I am just curious to what your reasoning is behind they're "elite" status.

I agree. This type of setup for multiple games would really show people and the teams where they stand within the class.

Well, it's just my opinion, but I am a fan of Campbellsville. I have seen them play for the last 4 years. In my opinion, #14 is a better QB than last year's because not only can he throw it all over the lot, but in 9 out of 10 teams they face, he is the fastest kid on the field. The transfer RB #20 is better than last years as well.. They are bigger and stronger than last year and dominate on both the offensive and defensive lines. As far as their schedule goes, well, all they can do is play who's next. And not to sound negative, but Raceland's schedule is soft as well. It will be tough to go on the road this year for them, but in my opinion, they will be fine. Not dogging anyone either....

I don't like the idea of playing regular season games against a team you are likely or might meet in the playoffs. Put this together with teams from 1A vs. 2A, match 1A Beechwood vs. 2A Mayfield and I am all in. I would love to see Mayfield vs. Beechwood in years to come. It will be very tough to do with the driving distance between the two.

Looks like great week 1 stuff coach. Or, the idea of 1a vs 2a is awesome too. Previous year final 4 in each division play each other. Champs vs champs, runner up vs runner up, etc. Have it in either Lexington or Louisville on a turf field. Would be awesome.

I also like the idea. I think if we replace East Carter with this game, it will help us much more than East Carter. And then go into Putnam for week 2. I am all in on this idea.
