Basically, if you can't play with toy guns anymore, get rid of them, ban them. It's not an ammended right to own toy guns. It is, however, our right to bear arms. You never hear of anyone complaining about there is no ban on fake guns though do you?

 

Yet as far as lockdowns at schools, airports, public places etc.. Toys, purses, misplaced luggage etc causes the same problems that these kids did with an airsoft gun.

 

Again the scenario is completely different, I don't believe that guns of any type should be banned. But I could make as much of a case for toy guns, purses, luggage, or anything else for that matter, in relation of these two incidents.

JD, I think you're being a little flippant about this, if I can be honest with you. 6 big dudes walking across campus, at night, carrying guns (at night, from any distance whatsoever, who can tell what kind of guns they are) on a college campus, are going to incite panic. You're acting as if they were shooting super soakers at each other in the broad daylight. That isn't the case.

 

You have to expect a school to err on the side of caution, and it isn't like someone inadvertently left a purse as you keep trying to use as an analogous comparison.

 

No one is wanting to incarcerate them, as I can see, nor expel them from school (with apparently an exception or two), but to act so flippant about this like it is just another day is, I think, under-selling this a little.

But 6 big guys with what looks like a gun could fall into the category of profiling, if people that are not those six big guys, incited panic, which reporded gunshots being fired in several locations, due to the fear of 6 big dudes carrying something that resembled a gun, which it turned out it wasn't and no one was arrested at that time.

 

Some would question why the people who said a gun was shot were not charged with filing false charges, as an airsoft gun sounds nothing like a real one. I say give them a break, they may not know what a real gun sounds like. But yet no one is willing to give these kids a break for making a bad decision of playing with a toy anyone can by at Walmart.

I don't think you understand, I'm not defending them in any way, what they may or may not have done is stupid, given how people react to things now.

 

As far as profiling goes, there were several calls about gunshots in the area, a specific area was not mentioned.

 

When you discharge a gun the sound can be audible for miles. When you discharge ab airsoft gun the sound may be audible to a couple hundred feet, if that, and it sounds nothing like a gunshot. If it was reported as gunshots and these "big men" were involved, yet they didn't have a weapon, then profiling or people who didnt like them could be involved.

 

As far as filing false charges goes, that was just me trying to give a correlation as to kids being charged for something they had no intention of causing.

 

As far as false statements go with the statute, I have no idea. Do you? I was just mentioning it coukd be as much of a possibility as there was the possibility of a threat. If you know, then I would imagine you know much more about the situation than most.

As HB20 said: WHAT? Profiling? How in the world did you even come up with that one? For someone who claims to have worked in an attorney's office you sure are making some off the wall comments. As HB20 also clearly stated, and I touched on it too, the police do not deicide who gets charged! It goes to the county attorney's officer and they decide.

 

Then you say that some would question why the callers were not charged with filing false charges? This is bizarre as well. First off, they THOUGHT they hear something and reported it, one of our members said last night his son also said he hear a gunshot! These callers did not FILE any charges! They made a phone call,

 

You claim profiling because 6 people, big people in this case, are walking around on campus with a weapon that is NOT ALLOWED on campus, it doesn't matter if it's a rifle, pistol, BB gun or airsoft, they are banned from campus. You would think that everyone would have sense enough to not being any type of weapon on a HS or college campus these days. It does not matter what the intent was, they are banned! And as many have stated, these guys are very lucky the police didn't see them as there very well may have been some very serious injuries to these guys, and possibly innocent bystanders.

 

If you think an air soft gun is just a toy, go on, take your walmart air soft toy to your local HS tomorrow and carry it like these guys were, and just see what happens.
