This whold situation is a sad reflection on the world we now live in. I realize that it has to be taken seriously and I personally feel it's been dealt with properly. I have a few observations.

 

1. There is no way that someone heard an airsoft gun fired and thought it was a real gun. I don't care if it's a CO2 powered gun or not.

2. I think its a matter of kids making a dumb mistake and further compounding the mistake by not coming forward immediately. If they had just owned up from the beginning the lockdown/manhunt could have been minimized or avoided all together.

3. Trying to connect this to Fern Creek is a real reach.

We used to play man hunt back in the day, but it didn't include any weapons...

 

Same here, I guess you could but I don't see why.

Bottom line is kids made a huge mistake in decision making so serve the punishment and move on.....will have no factor in SC game......just go on the field and compete

I will say it was kind of dumb in the middle of a campus, but when we go camping, we have airsoft wars with about 20 people in the woods. We take safety precautions. We have never had any problems

I haven't read all post on this thread but I am sure I will be in the minority in say that these bone heads are extremely lucky that they aren't off the team. You just can't fix Stupid :banghead: :madman: and probably should be.

I am all in on Stoops as coach but am disappointed in this decision. I believe in making a statement that it's not going to be the Lexington Country Club....a coach / team has to have standards, discipline. I know that Stoops has discipline and all, is jmo that a one game suspension is far too light.

Yes, the "gun noises" described couldn't had came from a pellet gun, those shots were obviously not from these players. As far as I know the U.K. Campus and/or area that these guys were at is a "Gun Free Zone" ....Period, No pellet / air gun exception. That Fact right there tells anyone that they were breaking the law and on a gun violation at that.

I do hope that these kids (and if you do what they did - yes, you're a kid!) learn from this. I am sure that all are probably good kids. Personally, I think at least suspend them for the remainder of the season and should they even have as much as the least team/university rule violation during that time then they are gone. I don't are who or how good they are.

 

SO, go ahead and let the shots fire - it won't be the first time and probably not the last.

Not a single person has said that. No ones even said anything remotely close to that.

 

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility that some students, who have never been around guns before, were walking around heard a noise (yeah maybe just the soft pop of an airsoft gun), looked around and saw 6 large individuals dressed all in black carrying guns (not even people who are around guns daily could tell what type of guns they are at 11:30 at night) and made the conclusion that they were firing weapons. Seems perfectly reasonable to me, and I don't blame the individuals for calling 911. In that situation, I'm probably doing the same thing.

Like Mustang said, and judging by the fact that you haven't answered I'm going to guess no one. I like how people just make things up and then ignore it when people call them on it. If someone said anything close to what you posted I'd like to see it.

But I do in fact remember it was mentioned more than once that it could be possible that maybe the sound of an airsoft gun could have been mistaken for a real gunshot. Once someone explained that the two sound nothing alike, someone came back with the response of "have you shot every airsoft gun ever made?"

 

It was also debated whether an airsoft gun or bb gun would be deemed a deadly weapon via state, county, or city regulations. The answer to that, at least in the city I live in is no.

So your original post I quoted was pretty much wrong? I don't remember anyone saying they're a deadly weapon either just that they are banned from some campuses...

I have no idea who said it, thats not a big deal to me. No one said that airsoft guns sound like real guns, but when someone mentioned that they sound nothing alike, a "have you shot every airsoft gun made" post was the response. Which would imply that whomever posted that response believes they may or could sound alike.

If you say so. The things I have mentioned may not have been said directly, but they were implied. At this point I am focusing on tonight's game though, not an airsoft game.
