No. Would I be for a suspension from all football activities and a zero-tolerance probation from the school through the fall semester? Yes. Anything less than that feels inadequate to me. Being on the record against 'gun-free' zones - that includes college campuses as a whole - this incident unfortunately gives 'ammunition' (no pun intended) to the gun-free-zone advocates due to the reckless actions that involved guns (regular or airsoft - not sure it matters in debate). Carrying a gun, in a responsible manner - either concealed (w/proper permit) or open (as current law allows) should not freak-out people. But it does and it is against policy. But here they were not just 'carrying'. They appear to have been discharging in a public area and openly banishing weapons. That's a big difference from simply carrying. Is that legally reckless discharge of a weapon (firearm)? Is it the crime of wanton endangerment? I assume that is what is being investigated. But the main point is they did not just have and were carrying weapons, they were being stupid/reckless it seems. The former is almost certainly a violation of campus/UK policy. The later is more serious - and possibly a criminal act. So this is fairly serious. More than a game suspension may be warranted - I do not believe that that action alone will necessarily be considered the end of the situation from Coach Stoops standpoint. More maybe coming but at least Stoops took specific action quickly that was more than the half game approach of FSU. He may very well have to take stronger action. Or the University may force stronger action and take it out of his hands.
September 30, 201411 yr While I don't think they should be expelled I am really glad that Barker didn't win the starting QB spot. Something like this going into the SC game. Really disappointed in leadership or supposed leadership of future QB.
