Would it be ironic if CovCath wins this year HHS 100 year...

Alright sports fans...as many would tell you, this is the biggest rivalry week of the regular season for the folks in Ft. Thomas and Park Hills. Highlands High School and 4A district rival Covington Catholic will be taking the field against each other for the 62nd time in their football programs' histories. The series stands at 44-17 in Highlands' favor, with the Colonels last win against the Bluebirds taking place in November of 2006, when Cov Cath won their district by beating the Bluebirds 25-15 at Wooten Stadium, two weeks after having traveled to David Cecil Memorial Stadium and beating them 29-27. The Colonels went on to win the 3A state championship that year. Since then, Highlands has beaten Cov Cath all 11 times they have met on the football field, and the Bluebirds have gone on to compete in the state championship game each of the 7 following years, bringing home 6 consecutive titles, and the runner-up trophy last season.

 

Highlands comes into the game on Friday with a 4-0 record on the season, with victories against 6A Campbell County, 6A Bryan Station, 5A John Hardin, and 3A Paducah Tilghman. Cov Cath comes into the game following their bye week with a 3-1 record, with victories over 6A Boone County, 6A Dixie Heights, and 6A Henderson County, and a loss coming from week 3 against Ohio Division 1 defending back-to-back state champions, Archbishop Moeller.

As for the game, I have no clue. Even in years when one team or the other is favored by a bunch, you can't count on anything. From what I have seen so far this year, they are pretty close to dead even. I am looking for it to come down to the last possession.

I think it comes down to execution. No room for error on either side. Can't drop balls, fumble, miss open receivers, not wrap on tackles, miss assignments, etc. All these little things catch up to you in a game like this.
