I am tired of sacrificing my religious freedoms as a Christian for the sake of tolereance.

The funny thing is, I used to be tolerant. Now, not so much. My tolerance has ran out.

Whatever the motivation behind it, this is becoming the norm everywhere. There are still many high school programs where they have team prayer, even a pregame prayer over the PA system. Slowly but surely they will all be forced to cut it out or face a legal battle that they will not win. Regardless of any of our feelings on the matter, that is an unavoidable fact.

 

And this is why our country is in the state it is in today. What a shame that a person or group of people who share a common bond through the Lord not be allowed to express their feeling publically and if you don't want to participate then don't. I didn't want to see Michael Sams kiss his boyfriend, but hey I did and went on about my business. Why is it we give so much publicity to the negative things in the world and not to the good. Ray Grahmn is one of if not the most Christian coach I know. Huge in FCA and been a mentor to young Christians for years. Hey I guess the good book was right, being persecuted for being a Christian is the only tool the devil has. I am done.

About like the trash that is running, or not running this country. I don't want to get into p&r here but that Liberal "tolerance :sarcastic:" is whats wrong with everything. Should I want to pray, and I am a Christian then I am going to pray. I am sick of all this :poop:. Liberal "tolerance" is good until someone disagrees with them.

Why is it we give so much publicity to the negative things in the world and not to the good.

 

Open your eyes, no longer being able to force non-religious students into taking part in prayer is a good thing.

The school system was simply taking the route that many of the courts have taken. We had a thread about this a few years ago about a coach in NJ who was not allowed to lead a prayer before the game.

The only problem is that the "law" in question here is NEVER consistently applied.

You certainly don't want to count on me as your legal scholar but I'm pretty sure there is a difference between a coach/team and the examples you cite. I seem to remember the ruling being based on the issue of "influence." A coach/teacher has influence over students/players - real or perceived. The examples you cite do not.

 

While we can wonder/debate why they allow prayer before sessions I don't think we can compare those with this.

So the same people that are upset would be OK if the Head Coach read from the Quran and/or went to a synagogue for the pre-game meal? I doubt it.

 

This is less of a "freedom of religion" issue than an "establishment clause" issue. Teacher / Coach of a public school system clearly has, and should have, influence over the students. It should not be clouded with religious overtones -- regardless of if that religion is the same as the overwhelming majority of the students.

 

It is totally different. It is a voluntary prayer. Meaning if you choose to do it. Kids don't have to participate in it, but can if they choose to. If there is a player on the team that has muslim beliefs and wants to show his religious ceremonies, no offense to anyone of that belief just an example, then they are free to. It is a matter of freedom of religion because they have the choice to participate, and now the coach can't say a prayer.

 

And it is also different because that coach isn't reading from the bible, if the coach was saying a muslim prayer or something, then the kids have the choice to listen, or say a christian prayer if that is what they practice.

 

The biggest issue I have is why does it matter to people so much. If you don't believe in it don't listen or participate. They have christian shows on TV, those aren't getting cancelled because people don't like them, they have the choice to turn the channel and not watch or listen to it. In my opinion, it is the same thing

Your TV analogy tells me you do not have a firm grip on the legal aspects involved.

No. That's not what he's saying. He's saying that schools are being forced to follow the law.

 

Anyone and everyone can fight to get the laws changed.

The way this country is going it wouldn't surprise me to see people protest that LCA should just be referred to as Lexington Academy when reporting scores.

No coincidence whatsoever that Rowan Co is a democrat haven , one of 9 counties to vote for Obama in Ky . You can spin it , but facts are facts .
