Its simple. BW has depended upon out of district talent for a long time. Those kids are now staying, or even moving to, SK, Dixie and Scott. There is no room for population growth and little room to expand the school. Those that are the most serious abut FB are going to Cov Cath. We have not heard of any FB transfers to BW in at least 2 years.

 

Kind of what I was going to post. Folks just can't afford out of district tuition today. However, as I understand it, CovCath's enrollment numbers have been increasing. So, go figure.

In other words the problems with the Beechwood football program are totally out of Beechwood's control?

 

BW is victim of their own success. Championship expectations are no longer reasonable. Maybe that changes when Mayfielg goes to class 2a.

 

We see all over the state that traditional powers who were shoe ins for titles are being challenged and conquered. Football in the state is becoming more competitive.

 

Mayfield and Bowling Green seem safe for now, but we also said that for Tinity and Highlands just 2 years ago.

 

 

I believe a coaching change will do more harm than good.

 

This is kind of a random thought, but it seems like a lot of the schools that have become more competitive in FB also have very good wrestling programs.

I am visioning a "Gangs of New York theme" with Old Sports Dad playing Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day Lewis) carving some carcass behind the Kroger's entrance. The natives are just waiting for "the Dead Rash Rabbits" to slip again. A loss to Holy Cross this weekend will make the natives restless!

The graduating class from 3 or 4 years ago had a ton of kids from boone. many more from cresent springs. I would say they had at least 10 or more tuition students.

Talent pool flow.

 

For one team to rise.... another must decrease.

 

For CCH to rise, NewCath must decrease.

For Simon Kenton to rise, other NKY teams must decrease.

For Campbell County to rise, even mighty Highlands must decrease.

For Cooper and Conner to rise, Ryle and Boone must decrease.

 

Beechwood used to be the program parents moved their kids into at early ages.... now those programs are elsewhere.

 

Finite talent can only be dispensed a finite amount.

I know that SK lost several kids to BW several seasons ago. Not many since. I still think that's one of the reasons we played HC in FB....to convince kids to stay at SK instead of transferring.

6 classes instead of 4 and no more NewCath should have made it much easier on Beechwood.

Fans need to realize that Dan Wooley, Shannon Huth, Brandon Berger, and Jeff Lubrecht aren't walking through that door. They just aren't as big as they used to be. Going to turf killed Beechwood. Their success derived from big athletic lines, a thunder and lightining approach in the backfield and just enough trickery to keep teams honest. Teams caught up and passed them. Turf has rendered the bad weather of the playoffs almost null and void. On top of all that, Beechwood seems to have lost all of its size. They have had some smallish teams, physically speaking.

 

Now, taking this long to come to grips with the forward pass should fall on Rash's shoulders, but it isn't exactly like Yeagle was going to become the Mike Leach of Ft. Mitchell had things worked out for him personally.

 

Additionally, this sounds EXACTLY like the NewCath community in '98 and '99 before Coach Schneider completely changed everything and gave complete control to his coordinators.

 

This is all very, VERY accurate. And I agree - there was a LOT to be said for Beechwood being ahead of the curve in developing their gameplan in the 80's, and other teams HAVE managed to catch up and surpass them.
