theguru Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 After the "Dixie Disaster" I fielded several calls from the Old School Beechwood Natives and they are not happy. Lots of complaining, they all want a new head coach, they say several of the fans are extremely vocal in the stands and there was even some pretty spirited in-fighting among members of the coaching staff. One fan told me, "We are terrible and it gets worse every year." One fan told me, "Terrible, Dixie did not have to punt the ball one time." (The game wasn't over yet so I am not sure how the punts worked out) One fan told me, " No enthusiasm in the program or sideline or on the field." One fan told me, "We need a coaching staff makeover." One fan told me, "The Mt. Healthy game was only close because Mt. Healthy was out of shape." One fan told me, "The Super at Beechwood has let everyone know he is done at the end of the school year and that frustration... I will leave the rest of this one to your imagination." And a couple of fans told me things that I just can repeat on here without violating our Terms of Service.
mexitucky Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Fans need to realize that Dan Wooley, Shannon Huth, Brandon Berger, and Jeff Lubrecht aren't walking through that door. They just aren't as big as they used to be. Going to turf killed Beechwood. Their success derived from big athletic lines, a thunder and lightining approach in the backfield and just enough trickery to keep teams honest. Teams caught up and passed them. Turf has rendered the bad weather of the playoffs almost null and void. On top of all that, Beechwood seems to have lost all of its size. They have had some smallish teams, physically speaking. Now, taking this long to come to grips with the forward pass should fall on Rash's shoulders, but it isn't exactly like Yeagle was going to become the Mike Leach of Ft. Mitchell had things worked out for him personally.
mexitucky Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Additionally, this sounds EXACTLY like the NewCath community in '98 and '99 before Coach Schneider completely changed everything and gave complete control to his coordinators.
BlueChip Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 ...and I get 'beat on' on BGP for saying anything negative about the program. I guess I'm not the only one.

ChiefSmoke Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Fans need to realize that Dan Wooley, Shannon Huth, Brandon Berger, and Jeff Lubrecht aren't walking through that door. I saw those guys up close and in person when I coached at Paris in the early 90's. Don't forget Greg Hergott. Mike Yeagle did a super job with them and they were very talented/tough football players.
BlueChip Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014  me too  Gimme some pop-corn. When some of the rose-colored-glasses-wearers see this, they are going to fall apart like a 'soup sandwhich'.
bballguy Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Its simple. BW has depended upon out of district talent for a long time. Those kids are now staying, or even moving to, SK, Dixie and Scott. There is no room for population growth and little room to expand the school. Those that are the most serious abut FB are going to Cov Cath. We have not heard of any FB transfers to BW in at least 2 years.

Assuming you are correct (I am not taking a position), the question is why has the out of district talent dried up? And frankly, the complaints were the same when there still was out of district talent but the complaints weren't as loud.
theguru Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Hergott was a hell of a quarterback. And now he is the OC, correct?
Hellbird Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The talent is still there. Maybe not as much, but it's still Decent for 1A football and they can still give most teams in the area a tough time more times than not. This is why I think a lot really falls on the coaching. Last year too many times they were force feeding sev players in offense while ignoring some other talented players more time Than not which led to a one dimensional offense. I haven't seen them theis year yet but sounds very similar to last year.

It is not a matter of BW deteriorating, but the surrounding programs improving. All the facilities were upgraded in all 3 KC schools with the expressed purpose of retaining and attracting athletes. These schools seem to be the targets for those not content with the BC programs. No way this happens even 5 years ago. Clearly, upgrading the facilities at all KC schools has had a significant impact. All three programs are healthy, and BW is suffering the consequences.

In other words the problems with the Beechwood football program are totally out of Beechwood's control?
