Being reported that he is reopening his recruitment...

Jerry Meyer @jerrymeyer247

I don't play up shoe company angle in basketball recruiting but decommitment of Antonio Blakeney from Louisville is shoe company related.

Blakeney has confirmed it. That's a tough loss for UL.

He said he's known for 2 months that he was going to UL.

Now he says he rushed his decision. Strange...

:lol2:

College sports are dumb.

5 star Nike kids stay with Nike 99% of the time. This isn't going to be the 1%...

That didn't last long

"Rick Pitino has had more 5 star players de commit than get drafted"

Not Jerry Tipton

LSU?

It will be Top 3, at least.

Not so fast my friend!

LSU?

Or Kentucky...

Or Kentucky...

I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I read that he would take officials to Oregon, UK, LSU, & Missouri.

That didn't last long

Never does

Can you explain - in a nutshell - how this works out? Why do they "have" to stick to a Nike school? Do their AAU teams get sponsored by Nike? What benefits do they have by sticking with a Nike school? A deal when they're out of college?

From KSR:

Antonio Blakeney was on the phone with Malik Newman before he decommitted from Louisville.

24 hours before he announced he is no longer committed to Louisville, Antonio Blakeney was on the phone with Malik Newman, one of Kentucky’s top targets in the class. Who knows what the two five-star guards talked about (probably shoes) but one may speculate there was a little persuasion to consider playing together in college. I like to think Newman called him and said, “Hey Antonio, how are you? Good. I love that movie too. So I was thinking… You wanna go to Kentucky and share a backcourt with me? Louisville is terrible.” Yeah, that’s exactly how it went.
