I believe the Reds set a new record by scoring 1 run in the 3 game series in Chicago. I think I heard it was the lowest total in a series in Chicago since 1924 or something.

The window is closing for the Reds and appears to be opening for the Cubs.

Are you sure the Reds were in Chicago? I thought I heard somewhere the Cubs were hosting Chattanooga for a few days this week (manager included).

I started this thread last September asking which team, Reds or Cubs, will win more games in 15,16, and 17.

Cubs...by a LOT! Better players now, better players in minors, better GM, better manager, more resources...have I missed anything?

 

It is going to be depressing being a Reds fan the next few years.

Cubs and won't be that close.

Cubs window opens next year. Their best prospect Kris Bryant is still triple A and killing it. Cubs and I don't think it'll be as close as you guys hope. Since starting bringing in the prospects, they've been playing well. I believe 6 over .500 since August 1st.

Scary to think that the Cubs can only get better from here. Definitely can improve with their starting pitching.

Sounds like the Cubs might be interested in Rafael Soriano. Soriano was linked with the Marlins a couple weeks ago but it fell through. The signing would make sense for the Cubs for several reasons.

 

Soriano most recently pitched for Tampa (and Joe Maddon). He's currently a free agent.

I started this thread a year ago. I expected the Cubs to do well over the next couple of years but I certainly didn't expect it to be THIS year.

If my calculation are correct...Reds are 62-88 since thread was started, while Cubs are 84-65. Going to be hard to come back from 22 down, even if it is over 2 years. I think we may be able to go ahead and call this one.

In the Reds division, I just don't see how the Reds can do better than the Cards, Cubs or Pirates in the next 3-5 years. Those three teams are well run...Cards and Cubs especially. I am very pessimistic about the Reds future. Hope I am wrong.
