I'm not surprised as particularly in high school a team can jump up with an outstanding class then fall on hard times when they leave.

 

Especially at the smaller schools, you get 3 or 4 really good players in one class and it can make a huge difference.

I think CovCath started out 0-3 in 1994.

2013 - Started out 1-4 (won 1st game), after winning it all in 2012.

 

2006 - Started out 1-4 (2-5), after winning it all in 2005. However, they won the next 8 straight, including ALL 5 playoff games on the road to win the title in 2006.

Trinity went 1-3 in their first 4 games last year. I can't remember if they lost the first 3 or not. I think they won their 2nd but lost 1st, 3rd and 4th if I'm not mistaken.

 

Are you sure? I am pretty sure Trinity was winless going into the game with St. X and they should have had 4 games by then. If I am not mistaking, the four losses were to a really good Manual, Cincy St. X, Brentwood TN and I believe another KY team I cannot remember which. Seneca maybe when they had Clark as their QB???? During the four games, Trinity's offense was doing fine, the defense could not find itself till the St. X game.

Fort Campbell started 0-3 in 2010 after winning three straight state titles from 2007-09

You got to remember that the smaller class State Champs are usually State Champs because they have a tough non-district schedule so it is very easy to lose several games in the beginning of the season. And even large schools like Trinity /St.X have very difficult non-district schedules against out of state teams.

Mayfield was 1-3 in 93 and won the 2A title.

I think Shelby Co was 5-5 when the playoffs started but don't know how they started out.

In 88? I thought the 88 team went 10-0 but lost to Warren Central in the playoffs. They return a ton of players from the 87 team.

Actually CovCath started 0-3 in 2007 too.

I am 99% sure that T lost to MBA, Cincy X, Seneca, & Manual in '03 then won the next 11 in a row to win state. I believe those first 4 losses were by a total of like 11 or 12 points.
