YOU dont ever get that call in that situation , a desperation 3 from half court, but I didnt see any contact anyhow, if there had been a foul called, the house would have come down

Did he get the shot off before the buzzer or was he to late? I didn't mean to spark such a controversy over whether or not there was a foul. It looked like a foul when I was watching live, but hey, if it wasn't a foul, it wasn't a foul. The ref's actions indicated that he was about to call a foul - I guess he was just excited to. I think the moral of the story is to stay away from someone that is firing up a desparation, running 3-pointer from half court and not take a chance on drawing a foul.

I wasn't at the game, but all the talk of "was there a foul or not" is immaterial. If the man with the whistle says there was a foul, then that's where it goes. If he doesn't blow the whistle, then there was no foul.

 

I haven't seen anyone from Ashland on here (or the other thread) claiming that there was a foul. On the contrary, someone made the statement that even Dicky Martin made absolutely no mention of a "missed call" on the phantom foul.

 

Bottom line - Elliott County played a solid game, and won it on the floor. No ifs, ands, or buts - the better team won the game. Best of luck to Elliott, and may they keep shooting like they did in the second half.

 

For my money, when the horn sounds, the best team is the one that has the most points on the scoreboard. That may not be true on another night, but the only night that counts is the night the game is played.

From where I sat, I didn't think that there was a foul. However, the official raised his hand in what I thought was indicating that he got the shot off before time expired and would have been good in the event he made it.

Wonder if he was indicating foul or a "three"???

I couldn't tell if the shot was off in time or not...I believe that it was....They woman next to the camera was yelling..so I couldn't hear the buzzer ... and the film didn't show the scoreboard.

Dicky Martin was as negative as I have ever heard last night about the Tomcats. It was very poor broadcasting on his part.

Thank you for bringing up that great game in 93. All that is ever talked about is the shot we forget about the 17 point halftime lead Russell had and the Tomcats fought back and won the game.Was the shot good in 93 some say yes some say no. The fact is that Ashland went on to play in the Sweet 16.Once again thanks for making this old Tomcat feel good again.

The shot was on WYMT last night and I didn't see any contact from their angle, so what contact there was (if any) had to be very little.

If this is the case then it is a shame for a couple of different reasons. First of all Dicky is as good a play by play man as you will ever hear. I think things like this take away from what he does so well and that is describe the game. Secondly, this particular bunch of Tomcats played very hard and deserve to be given credit for doing so not criticized for getting beat.

I found nothing wrong with what Dicky had to say last night. He just commented on how this wasn't a very good Ashland basketball team. Dicky has been around a very long team, and has seen some great Ashland teams. If you compare this years team to Ashland teams of the past he is correct in saying this years team wasn't very good.
