What a great game. Let's not mar it by talking about this no call. It was really a non-issue. Noone has mentioned it from either side since the game except for one poster here. Ashland played good fundemental basketball and killed Elliott County on the boards. Elliott is going to have to do a better job blocking out if they want to continue to advance. The freshmen were simply not going to let this one get away. Those kids just don't quit regardless of the score. Greenup County is a physical team that will pose some matchup problems, but I believe Elliott's speed will also cause similiar problems for Greenup.

 

I just asked what happened. People were posting about it on another thread before it was closed. I'm not trying to take anything away from Elliott, I was just curious. Yes, people have mentioned it from both sides.

Thank you for bringing up that great game in 93. All that is ever talked about is the shot we forget about the 17 point halftime lead Russell had and the Tomcats fought back and won the game.Was the shot good in 93 some say yes some say no. The fact is that Ashland went on to play in the Sweet 16.Once again thanks for making this old Tomcat feel good again.

Ashland has had their share of lucky shots...in 1993 Regional Semi-Final Marty Thomas hit 30 footer at half to stop Morgan Co. momentum and ultimately win by 5 points....in '93 Dec. regular season at Ashland I believe Ryan Robinson hit a buzzer beater to beat Morgan County...the year before at Morgan Co. in 1992, Jason Strader hit a last second shot to beat Morgan County 50-48.

Post-mortem hiatus? Actually this only the second Ashland loss I have experienced on BGP. Not that its any of your business but I had a 3 hour history midterm today, chemistry, health for nearly 3 hours, and an art education class till 8:00, and Im purchasing my first home tomorrow. My plate is pretty full, Im not old and retired like most of you guys. j/k. Its now 8:22 and this is the first time I have had to myself all day.

But back to the game. I thought Ashland played well, Elliott just caught fire from deep in the 4th quarter. If you look at the box score you would have thought Ashland won, but they kept trading 2 for 3 and that is why they lost. Im excited for next season, McDavid should become Ashland all-time leading scorer, and Im sure we will be in the thick of things come March. 5 months till football!

No, last night was only their 2nd win in regional tourney games.

That is what I saw - I couldn't tell from his actions what his intentions were. I thought he was going to call a foul, but he could've been indicating three if it goes. It was so loud and everyone was running all over and jumping that I'm not really sure what happened. My first thought was "for the love of God, don't foul!!!" I do know that the Elliott defender was in a very vulnerable position if the shooter would have jumped into him in the air.

 

From an officials standpoint of view, it is nearly impossible to call a foul on a half-court desperation 3. Unless the shot is contested and the defender blatenly fouls the shooter it is hard to call a foul. Not saying there wasn't contact on Thomas' deserperation shot; but there is no way to call foul and put the player on the line with time experied witch a chance to win or tie the game. From my seat I didn't see a foul. But what a great game.

FWIW, I dont think there was a foul. I dont even remember anyone being near Thomas when he shot....

No kidding. I was totally ready to give you the Tomcat salute until I noticed the youngsters in the back. But I didnt want to undo all the years of Christain Education they have been provided at Rose Hill. :lol:

I"m glad they didn't call a foul - I am not a disgruntled Ashland fan, I am a 100% Elliott County fan.
