August 20, 201412 yr I read today somewhere that the Reds have a 2% chance to make the playoffs, which means they aren't. While that is hardly a surprise, it did get me to thinking. If Votto gets healthy enough to play September 1, should they play him? I don't think he should. What is there to gain from it, nothing that I can determine. I would either go with Lutz for the last 30 games and see what he can do or find the best 1st baseman the have in their Farm System and go with him.
August 20, 201412 yr If he's healthy you play him. However, he has to be HEALTHY not just "able" to play. I don't want to see anyone from Louisville. There's nothing there that we're going to see contribute. If you go "future mode" you go down to AA.

August 21, 201412 yr ..... As I mentioned on July 11 in the "Inside the Reds" thread, they weren't expecting him back in 2014 at that point. Obviously I don't think anything has changed.

August 21, 201412 yr I don't want him to come back, this season is lost. Rest, rehab and come back as a strong player (if that is possible) hit .340 in April and May with 15 HR's and then MAYBE the Reds could trade him real fast!

August 21, 201412 yr I really think unfortunately that our boy Votto was juicing and was fortunate enough not to get caught, if you look at his body and injuiries he has sustained since the mandatory testing it proves it has to be a thought. Lost 30-40 pounds easy Has only hit 3-4 HR to opposite field in last 2 years total, the year before testing he hit the ball hard to all fields. He is a 30-35 HR guy back then and now he is 15, and thats a stretch When off the juice people tend to get hurt more and power to opposite field and all fields go away. I would throw Ryan Howard in that mix as well. The contract will kill the Reds unless they can trade him away and that is not going to happen. Losing cueto and latos means no shot at a playoff run in the long run.

Since you brought this up, will have to say have thought the same thing about him,Ryan Ludwick,Howard,Matt Holiday and many others, when home runs decrease so much, what else are you supposed to think these days.Wasn't it said there were more than 100 more PED users that haven't been disclosed? His whole situation over the past several years has been very strange, from the above the shoulder issues to his injuries never seemingly healing,etc. Still my favorite current Red regardless
