Here is the question I have. Even if they add 10 more players to make 15 total, whoever they may be...what's the plan for this year? If the KHSAA ruling stands then there will be no games played this year, and my understanding is as long as they are a KHSAA member then they would have to abide by that ruling (should it stand baring any kind of appeal). The only option left to play games this year would be to drop KHSAA membership, thus allowing them to play whoever they want/would schedule them. Any insight on that?

While true and I agree with both of you, I think the better way to put it would have been...everyone is playing by the same set of rules, which is the whole purpose of the KHSAA. Once this is done, then talent, teamwork and coaching take over, which in the case of those aspects, the playing field will NEVER be level or equal. Somebody's always going to be better, stronger, have more, be more dedicated, out hustle, etc.

When I talk about an even playing field, I am talking about working with what you are dealt. It has nothing to do with coaching or one players dedication compared to another player.

It has everything to do with playing the kids that are legally supposed to go to that school according to the rules.

I wouldn't refer to that as an even playing field, it will never be even in that case. I call that playing the hand you're dealt

1st, we aren't talking about college scholarship money, every school has that.

I'm talking about giving a list of non athletes getting what I asked about.

"This school sends three-fourths of its high school graduates to college or other advanced training, armed with scholarship assistance available to all graduates."

Cordia School | Lotts Creek Community School

This isn't "every" school. To the best of my knowledge, every school doesn't provide ALL of their students with a stipend for higher education upon graduation (though I wish mine did because I wouldn't be as neck deep in student loans now).

For further reference, again, see Post #60:

"The treatment these players receive is readily available to all cordia students. Did you know any cordia student that graduates receives a scholarship to go to college. It is evaluated on a need be basis any where from $1500 to $5000 dollars per year. That system has been in place for at least 30 years. I graduated there in 1989 and I got money every semester I was in college. They provide clothing and furniture as needed to every student and their families and even in certain cases some people gets their electric bills paid in emergency cases. Cordia student have been staying in housing owned by the lotts creek community school since the 1950's and no not just athletes stay there."

This makes total sense now. I may have thought you might of been a graduate from there but that was about it. Now knowing this as a fact I now understand why you defend them so hard even when their violations are un-defendable.

I like you a lot Joker, but as far as this topic goes I have to ignore any of your posts. they are all tainted and if this was another school in say...NKY you would be all over them for the horrible violations they committed.

Sorry, but there is no defending this at all, if anything you should be apologizing for the embarrassment that Cordia has become and try to distance yourself from the current crooked administration.

If it was my old high school , I would make it very clear that their current administration and their violations in no way reflects the school that I once knew and am stating that I don't condone or approve of anything they have done when it comes to athletics especially basketball, it is not how I was raised and not what I like seeing from my alma matter.

Post #60 was from Lion Pride 89. That's who he cited in italics.

I could be wrong but I believe Joker is a graduate of Oneida Baptist Institute (OBI), not Cordia.

I didn't graduate from there. I'm just from the area and know that they do a lot of good things in the community and have done things for people long before they cared about winning games. If Rhodes (or even an association with Bender that's been insinuated by some) are a problem, then that's fine. I just think people are seeing some things that the school does and not realizing that they do those same things for a lot of kids. Now, if that's an unfair advantage, then that's another issue, but no one was talking about it being an unfair advantage when they were beating the tar our of Cordia and they were doing some of those same things.

If it was a high school in Northern Kentucky, I'd have been doing the same defense. I'd rather go to the State Tournament and see OJ Mayo playing for Rose Hill rather than Jimbo Jones the 6'3 power forward from Smith County who gets his shot pitched into the 3rd row when his team draws Ballard at State and half of the crowd is back at the hotel by the half. The 14th Region hasn't exactly had tons of success at State and Cordia hasn't even made it out of the region-- they've only won their All A region once.

That's fine and dandy but once you start doing those things for athletes it becomes a violation.

I'm just saying that they've done them for athletes for years and no one cared until they started losing games they were used to winning. That tells me that people weren't upset with the principle of those things being done, they were upset with the fact that it cost them wins.

There's a huge difference in helping out boys and girls from the mountains .... and helping kids (WHO ALL JUST HAPPEN TO PLAY BASKETBALL) to come here from four states and three countries (U.S., Canada, Mali) in a three-year span with visas, housing, moving vans, etc.

I'm not sure Red Bird, June Buchanan or OBI help the less fortunate, but it wouldn't surprise me. Don't know. Not from that area.

But this is FAR MORE than about Cordia giving college scholarships to all grads. KHSAA doesn't have a bylaw against that. It's nice Cordia does it. Most schools don't.

But that's NOT was this is about. AT ALL.

Even when Cordia was doing that in the past "when no one cared" they were NOT getting THAT MANY transfers (especially athletes) from WAY OUT OF STATE. No way. No how. No sir. Good luck proving that. KHSAA keeps track of that.

The "just a coincidence" and "everyone else does it" and "this is what Cordia has always done" arguments are laughable.

They have about a week left to appeal, but they're gonna get fried in court if they do. Even if Cordia pulls off a hail-mary full-court buzzer-beating game-winner in court, it will still lose because now it's on the KHSAA radar. Every transfer, especially in boys' basketball, with Rhodes at the helm will be scrutinized.

Why is the "this is what Cordia has always done" argument invalid to you? Like I've stated, they actually have always done it. They've done it for kids who weren't good athletes.

I'm fairly familiar with the area having grown up there and feel qualified to talk about them based on what I actually know. I've defended them on that one and people have called it into question with, "if these kids weren't good athletes, they wouldn't be doing it". I've stated that I thought they were incorrect and provided evidence that they actually did that.

What I've been trying to say is that some of the benefits people see their kids getting are things that are given and think they are things that have only been given to athletes. That is just incorrect and is reflective of people not being familiar with Cordia and how they operate and making assumptions that fit their own preconceived notions.

I think it's fair to say that people were never mad about anything Cordia did before it meant their teams might lose some games.

If you were a kid from out of state who wanted to go there before and were an awful athlete, I'm going to say they'd have still taken you in if you'd expressed a legitimate interest in going to school there and living in the dorms.

Just like programs like Scott County can say, "our name and brand recruits itself" people could just as easily say "the name Roderick Rhodes on our sidelines and having a former NBA and Univeristy of Kentucky basketball player coaching our team is a selling point".

I'm not saying Cordia didn't have kids come in just to play basketball. I've never said that. I'm just saying that there are plenty of transfers who, whether legal under the rules or not, wouldn't be at their new schools if not for sports, so if you use that one on Cordia, you have to apply it to lots of other schools as well.

I know plenty of other schools probably wouldn't be turning away some of the talent that comes to Cordia if they'd asked to enroll at their school instead.

That is an excellent point joker. I read billy hicks comment where he said he doesn't recruit their program sells itself. I was just thinking cordia has the same argument. I know cordia does not have the tradition that Scott co does but in the city Rod Rhodes is still a big name. His is the kid from the streets that was the #2 rated player in the country coming out of high school, a McDonald's all American, major D1 college player and a first round NBA draft pick. Not to mention being an assistant D1 college coach. That is a good reason for kids to want to play for you. I heard a lot of people talk about how Rhodes recruited Cunningham. Cunningham recruited cordia. Rhodes was in California when cordia played in the kba that summer. Cordia was approached by cunningham and 2 other Henry clay players parents. The cordia personnel gave them the number and contact information of the approximate school personel. Cunningham ended up at cordia the other two did not. Since Rhodes has been at cordia 3 seasons. There has been 5 kids that have attended cordia that has signed D1 scholarships. That recruites on it's own. BTW this was Cordia's argument against the khsaa the last couple of years in court. The judge agreed that kids would want to come play for a big name. How many other schools can list a coach with his resume. Not many I would say.

Being in Hazard earlier this week, I drove out to Lotts Creek to check out Cordia. It is unique. I have no doubt that, for many years, it has provided support for students (both athletes and non-athletes) beyond what most high school students receive.

But I'm not sure the KHSAA cares about that. Its rules say that there are certain things you can't do for or with students who want to participate in KHSAA-sanctioned athletic events. The fact that the school may provide similar support to non-athletes is inconsequential to the KHSAA. There is a good argument that it should make a difference, but it simply doesn't, in the eyes of the KHSAA.

I don't know what did or didn't happen with regard to basketball players all of a sudden showing up to go to school at Cordia. I hope all the facts will come out at some time. But, having seen the school and its facilities, it is hard to believe that high school students from the Northeast have come to Kentucky to go to school at Cordia without at least some of what I will call "encouragement." And, right or wrong, that encouragement is not allowed by the KHSAA.

I'm not arguing with you by any means, but those 5 kids would have signed D1 scholarships if they were at Cordia...or Magoffin County...or Henry Clay...or Fiji. I know of Owootoah and Hines (who didn't actually play at Cordia). Who are the other 3?
