August 1, 201412 yr Cespedes is a FA after next season, so that would not have been a good trade. Aren't Latos and Simon as well, don't know.
August 1, 201412 yr why not have traded Latos or Simon and Ludwick for Cespedes I would like to hear comments on this. That is the deal that had to really hurt if you are a Reds fan. This team needs a Cespedes in the worst way. Cespedes is under contract for next year. When I heard that trade it totally ticked me off. Maybe the A's targeted Lester, but I wonder if Walt had any clue that Cespedes could be had.
August 1, 201412 yr Yes, in 07 and 08 at age 25 he put up very solid numbers. It wasn't too hard to see. Again, Rolen was done 3 years ago and EE is in his prime. It was not a good trade. Out of it we got 0 playoff series wins. And Edwin is a stud.
August 1, 201412 yr He was so good after the trade the Jays DFA'd him and the A's thought so highly of him they released him 3 weeks later. Yeah, you saw him breaking out at 29 years old after all that... Yes, in 07 and 08 at age 25 he put up very solid numbers. It wasn't too hard to see. Again, Rolen was done 3 years ago and EE is in his prime. It was not a good trade. Out of it we got 0 playoff series wins. And Edwin is a stud.

And to your point the Reds were playing him out of position, the only effective spot for him is DH. He stinks at every position he has played in the field. Did the NL allow the DH 5 years ago, and everyone missed it???
August 1, 201412 yr No and No. I've never been more disappointed in a GM. When I first heard the Reds were hiring Jocketty I immediately thought of all the moves he made with the Cardinals at the trade deadline to help clinch division titles for them. Other than the Latos deal he's been a complete bust IMO. No truer words were ever said. I, too, was excited when he was hired. He has been a HUGE disappointment. He's the anti-Billy Beane.
August 1, 201412 yr The Reds don't make the 2010 playoffs if they didn't have Rolen. I liked the trade at the time and I like it now. Encarnacion can't field, so he ha to be in a league where the DH can be used. Where would you put him?
August 1, 201412 yr Nothing more than just liked him as a player. The Heisey,Crudwick, anybody else in LF is as boring as dirt. Him and Cespedes went to Oakland for Lester, just saying would have done that deal for Cueto. it was Gomes and Lester going to A`s for Cespedes.
August 2, 201412 yr I stated a couple of wweeks ago, that we had no reason to think the Reds would do anything, and they didn't. Here's the problem, they think they are a championship caliber teamwhen everyone is healthy. For the rest of the season and the off season they will continually point to the two injuries as the downfall of this season. All I see them doing in the offseason is replacing Luddy. And history would lend us to believe that that replacement will be aging overpaid ex Cardinal
August 5, 201412 yr Why aren't they a title contender if fully healthy? Their rotation is legit. Rotation is legit. The everday 8 is weak, yes, when healthy. They were better last year and didn't hang a banner. No reason to think they would have this year. Vottos a headcase and BP doesn't want to be here. It will all be very apparent next year if no changes are made.
August 5, 201412 yr We do not have 3 guys in our everyday line-up that would start for most teams. WE have gotten career years from Mesoraco, Frazier, and Hamilton and we are still at .500. Pitching is good, line-up sucks!
August 5, 201412 yr Author We do not have 3 guys in our everyday line-up that would start for most teams. WE have gotten career years from Mesoraco, Frazier, and Hamilton and we are still at .500. Pitching is good, line-up sucks! This is just completely untrue. Mesoraco, Frazier, Hamilton, Bruce, Votto, Phillips would all start for the majority of teams.
August 5, 201412 yr IF you get the same pitching next season as you have this season (taking into account the injury to Latos and the stellar start by Simon), and IF you get career average years from Phillips, Votto and Ludwick along with a duplicate of 2014 from Meso, Hamilton and Frazier, your big hole is at SS. That team would compete.
