July 19, 201412 yr Very good chance LSU and TAMU both start true frosh QB's. I'll believe it when I see it. Harris for LSU's age though is Turing 20 during the season. Age wise he should be a sophomore this season.
July 19, 201412 yr Author I'll believe it when I see it. Harris for LSU's age though is Turing 20 during the season. Age wise he should be a sophomore this season. Does age matter in this argument? He still is coming off of a high school season one year ago.
July 19, 201412 yr Does age matter in this argument? He still is coming off of a high school season one year ago. Physically yes. Mentally no, but he has had roughly an extra year to grow than his counterparts.
July 22, 201412 yr I know coach speak, and everything Brown says is exactly that. I also know what I saw in the spring game and Barker was not close to the other two. I don't blame Brown and Stoops for playing it the way they have. Guys know its close and they are pushing each other(and feeling pushed). Every one one is an injury away from moving up/down the list. Why as a coach would you announce a starter and risk transfer. Furthermore, from a recruiting standpoint if you bring a guy in who is the supposed gem of your class, he leaves high school to enroll early and get a head start, he damn well better appear to get a legit shot. If that guy feels he never got a shot and transfers he is a noose around the neck of future recruiting. One week into fall coaches know if anything has changed since spring that would extend this thing. At that point reps will start to go to the guy who leads. A week later that guy better have separated himself. If so, he starts getting the lions share of the reps.
July 22, 201412 yr The coaches have had really good things to say about Phillips since he arrived at UK. I think I remember reading them saying they wanted to give him a shot during a game but didn't want to burn a year of eligibility. But I would be pretty surprised it the depth chart isn't 1. Towles 2. Phillips 3. Barker. Then when Max Smith is again healthy who knows.
July 26, 201412 yr If Pat starts and plays well, that may leave Drew sitting for 2 years. Would Drew sit that long without considering a transfer? Redshirt a year and start for 3? Not a bad path and from the sound of it he would be pushing hard to start 4. Say that if Pat does start this year and does play well and keeps the job for next year. Doesn't mean Pat could start for 3 seasons? He will only be a redshirt sophomore wont he?
August 6, 201412 yr Author Stoops said while the QBs were pretty good today, in an otherwise awful practice, he said he didn't get the leadership he was looking for out of the QB position.
August 6, 201412 yr Stoops said while the QBs were pretty good today, in an otherwise awful practice, he said he didn't get the leadership he was looking for out of the QB position. I'm sure some don't, but I love that kind of comment from the head coach.
August 7, 201412 yr Author Jeff Drummond thinks Stoops will redshirt Drew Barker and that Phillips will get the nod as the starter this year due to his consistency.
August 7, 201412 yr I'm sure some don't, but I love that kind of comment from the head coach. I'm with you. :thumb: Jeff Drummond thinks Stoops will redshirt Drew Barker and that Phillips will get the nod as the starter this year due to his consistency. I agree with half of what Drummond says. I think (and hope) Barker redshirts, but I see Towles as the starter.
August 7, 201412 yr Patrick has more upside he will start. I'm pretty confident that Towes will start as well.
August 7, 201412 yr I was told by a friend of a coach that Towles is the starter and it's not close. :lol2:
August 7, 201412 yr I was told by a friend of a coach that Towles is the starter and it's not close. Please keep that inside information coming Boss. Good stuff.
