Agree with that statement DD. The other two have been there for 3 and 2 years. One would think they would be much further along than a kid who just showed up in Jan. Also interesting neither one of those guys could beat out mediocrity last season. Whoever gets the job will benefit from two less demanding home games to get their feet wet. A plus imo.

Redshirt a year and start for 3? Not a bad path and from the sound of it he would be pushing hard to start 4.

Why not? Sometimes you have to wait your turn. Had he went to a more prominent football school he would have had to wait his turn there also. I think he will wait his turn and I don't think he has a problem with that.

Actually, he probably would have gone into South Carolina as the #2 backing up a SR.

 

Knowing Drew a bit I can tell you he won't "like" not getting the job. Why would he? Now that's not saying he won't be a good teammate. He will. However, he'll be trying daily to win the job no matter what. Kid does not want to ease into the position.

If it is this close I think Barker is the way to go. Like I said earlier, if he is even with guys that have time under their belt it doesn't say much for them and their abilities.

As far as Towles and his "new" and better mechanics. The only thing different is where he holds the ball in the pre-pass position. He now holds it in the conventional place near his right chest about nipple high, as opposed to up by his ear above his shoulder. When he goes to throw he does the same motion he has always done and that is drop the ball down below his elbow as his first move when he separates his hand. This in turn causes a long throwing motion, It is similar to Tebow except Tebow had a bigger wind up motion, but PT has a pretty significant wind up motion. The ball should not go below your elbow at anytime during any part of the throw.

No true freshman can start in the SEC and be successful. It would only hurt Drew if he started this year. Give him a year to fully mature and see were he is next year. Now I do think the original plan was for Barker to start next year because they needed it. But I think the coaches were pleasantly surprised by Towles and no longer feel the need to rush Barker.

I believe there is more to it than that. Coach Walker helped him with his feet too. Makes a big difference. Towles will start IMO.
