July 13, 201412 yr I didn't read all the posts from the game, but I saw a tweet that says the Reds have had 20 runners thrown out at the plate this year. Only three had 20+ all of last year. Tonight wasn't the first time our 3rd base coach sent someone when he shouldn't. But I'm sure plenty of you have already said what I want to say about it. Shame they couldn't get that one tonight.

July 13, 201412 yr Again, as was stated, he is the worst 3rd base coach in the history of the game because he does not take the situation into consideration when sending a runner home. Bases loaded, no one out with the batter with the highest batting average coming to the plate in the bottom of the ninth in front of the largest non-Opening Day/non-playoff crowd in the history of GABP............outfield playing in for a play at the plate.......... Broxton and Chapman already used or not available.......all say DO NOT SEND THE RUNNER.

Sorry, I wasn't clear." To be in that situation, you'd basically need a leadoff triple followed by a fly ball. Runner on third after a triple followed by a fly ball is about as far away as you can get from a potential bases loaded/ no outs/ best batting average on the team up nest/ bottom of 9th in front of sold out crowd/ outfield playing in/ two best relief pitchers not available for extra innings situation.
July 13, 201412 yr If LeCure doesn't give up 2 hits, McCutcheon doesn't lead off the 9th. If you face him with 1 or 2 outs, you COULD be more careful with him -- but Price apparently would not have employed that logic in the 9th since he didn't in the 11th (or Hoover didn't listen / execute). Agree - don't send the runner. I would have bunted Bruce (but if it is MY team, every player would know how to bunt or they wouldn't be playing, so that assumes a longer term approach). Yes, it takes the bat out of Meso's hands, but it also takes the inning-crushing DP out of play. It also brings the suicide squeeze into play with Ludwick (see above), particularly from a fastball throwing LHP that cannot afford to walk Ludwick with the bases loaded. Let's hope Cueto is Cueto today and we can get to the ASB w/ 2/3 against the Bucs. Maybe 1-0 win in 2 hrs. before the storms come. GO Reds!
