June 12, 201412 yr Ok, maybe I'm the only one on here...maybe the only one on the planet...but I don't like the Godfather. I had actually never seen it all the way through, just bits here and pieces there and quite frankly what I saw didn't seem to be enough to keep my attention, but a few weeks ago one of my movie channels was playing it so I decided to sit and watch it all the way through. Honestly I find it very slow and actually quite boring. I guess there's one in every crowd, but count me out as a fan.

June 12, 201412 yr Has anyone seen this movie? I've not seen it. Recommendation? "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse" WATCH IT!!!!!!!
June 12, 201412 yr You realize this is grounds for a suspension? Suspension? Heck! Take away his man card!
June 12, 201412 yr Godfather is a great movie as is II. You can't watch it casually while on your phone or laptop, you have to commit to it. My wife also thinks it's too slow, she wants there to always be something happening in a movie. This movie is about telling a story and it is a big story, get your mind right and sit back and enjoy.

Of course, she finds chick flicks like The Last Song and Safe Haven entertaining. Maybe you two share similar tastes?

Never seen either of those two, but to be honest...I can think of a "chick flick" or two that I like over the Godfather for sure. Hey, I can appreciate character driven movies as well that aren't "action packed" and full of car chases. Something like "Driving Ms. Daisy" comes to mind. I like a variety of movies. But I have just never gotten the big deal about the GF. Maybe it's the "mob/gangster" setting, which quite honestly I'm not a big fan of that genera in general.

Yep...man card revoking review is in order.

Thank you for helping to add a new word to my vocabulary with the use of "genera". I have honestly never seen the word used before, and in looking it up I've found it to mean the plural of "Genus", which stands to reason. Also add me to the list of those who've never seen "The Godfather". I can't say with certainty that I wouldn't like it, but the bits and pieces that I have seen have never made me feel the urge, or given me much curiosity to see it through. I'm that way about many mainstream movies. Obviously I'm in the minority, but I didn't care for "Batman: The Dark Knight", either while the rest of the world couldn't stop raving about it. I didn't even finish it as its dark depressing seriousness about it bored me to tears, and made me feel out of sorts. I'm more inclined to appreciate the old TV Batman that always had a flair of humor and color about it, and not some dark shadowed suicide prompting sheen.

Exactly, the Godfather is somewhat like the Sopranos in that to really appreciate the movie, it is critical that you stay on top of the relationships between the various characters and the families. It can be difficult to keep up with who is betraying who and so on. It is a movie the may require you to stop and rewind a time or two so make sure you have your head around all the moving parts of the movie. That or watch it a second time.
June 12, 201412 yr AMC does an all day marathon quite often. I'll jump in where ever and watch for a bit. The scenes with DiNiro as the young Vito Corleone are outstanding. (Yes, I know that from 2 but they are among my favorite scenes none the less.)
June 12, 201412 yr Did I just read "chick flicks" and "Batman: The Dark Knight" in a thread discussing the Godfather Trilogy? Unreal.
