Spurs 110 Heat 95 - Game One Final

Featured Replies

A very close game the whole way. AC in the arena was broken and the temp was 90 degrees. LeBron missed the last 6 minutes or so due to severe cramping. From that point on the Spurs dominated.

Here are some interesting stats:

Spurs shoot 58% from the floor and 52% from the 3 point line. Spurs shoot 89% in the fourth quarter.

Spurs outrebound the Heat by 10 - 39 to 29.

Assists - Spurs 30 Heat 16.

Turnovers - Spurs 23 Heat 18.

Duncan gets a double double is one behind Magic for the all time playoff record.

Spurs flat out killed it from behind the arc. Don't think I've seen them shoot like that in the playoffs. They only missed 2 shots in the 4th quarter.

And for all those who say LeBron should have toughened up and played through it I don't see how he could have. It's one thing to be slightly cramping or having the flu but the man could barely walk. Those who question his toughness or his willingness to play through pain to help his team win just don't know what they're talking about. LeBron is an easy out for a lot of people, he didn't lose this game tonight, the Heat defense and Mario Chalmers are the reasons why they lost it.

Also, the Heat lost Game 1 to Indiana and won that series. As long as they win Game 2 they'll be fine.

Pretty sure that Bayless - an unabashed Spurs homer - called this one 112-97 Spurs yesterday morning on First Take.

I guess LeBron was the only one playing in the heat last night...

Anyways, the biggest issue for Miami IMO is that the Spurs won having committed 22 turnovers. Not good for Miami. The Spurs were down right bad for a lot of the first half. Pretty sure they had like 10 turnovers in the 3rd quarter alone.

First game all year that I watched from start to finish. I was a little surprised by some of the just awful passing. How many times did players dribble to the corner and try to throw it back up top or cross court and it get stolen?

That's the worst the spurs have played all post season imo...and they won by 15. The temp effected them too imo

The Spurs didn't play well at all for several stretches, especially in the 3rd.

That is unlike the Spurs. They were able to overcome it with one of the greatest shooting performances of a quarter in NBA history though. Heck, that may have been the greatest shooting performance ever given the circumstances. What would be alarming if you are a Heat fan is that they played really well and with intensity. This was not a Game 1 vs. Indiana where they did not take them seriously and could not have cared less to be on the court. I understand 'Bron went out but he and the entire Heat team was going for the stranglehold last night.

If I'm Miami, I'm extremely worried after this one. Spurs didn't play well at all for 80% of the night.

I picked the Spurs in 7, but they are clearly better whether Miami has LeBron or not IMO. That 4th quarter was something special for San Antonio.

Even if LeBron had finished the game, the game was back and forth the whole time with SA turning it over so much. I don't think LeBron playing would have affected the outcome as much as the Spurs taking care of the ball.

So I saw in the game update thread a poster saying the "heat" favored the Spurs? How in the world can you come to that conclusion? Weren't both teams playing in the same arena?

I think your right their shooting was off the charts last night. But it was a 2 point game when he left for good...so we'll have to see what happens next.

Doesn't it seem like the Heat always lose game 1 of their series?

Yes, not to mention they are older and one would think more susceptible to fatigue. It is more of genetic problem for LeBron as this has happened on other occasions. Playing at home had more of an effect than anything.
